  • Hello!

I've lurked around this board occasionally, and finally decided to register. I've been doing the Atkins thing for the last 3 months, and I've lost 40 lbs. My weight loss has slowed quite a bit in the last few weeks, so anyone that wants to give advice is welcome to do so.

    Re: Hello!

First of all welcome to the board and congrats on your wonderful weight loss to date ........... in order to give advice you'll have to offer a little information ........ how much weight do you have to lose? What rung are you on or are you still on induction? Maybe post a sample day or two of menu's ......... a lot of times weight slows because your close to goal ....... it's time to increase your excercise, your have a good case of caarb creep ......... or maybe even your not eating enough ........regardless of the reason it's frustrating when it happens and trust me there is an answer and the good folks on this board will have a few ideas for you ............ Again welcome and when you have a chance post a few details that might help!

      Re: Hello!

I've tried to stick as close to Induction as possible. I was originally 256, currently 216, with a goal weight of 170. On a normal day, I'll skip breakfast (I know, a big no no), some type of unprocessed meat for lunch with a side of fresh veggies, and for dinner I'll have a salad with grilled chicken or steak and veggies. I don't drink caffeine, and I work out 5 to 6 days a week. Someone told me I should introduce something not so Atkins friendly every now and again to jump start my metabolism, but I've been scared to try it.

          Re: Hello!

Welcome aboard and great job! Great weight loss for three months!

Are you on extended induction, or working a new rung each week? (OWL)Perhaps to jump start your metabolism, work a rung instead of what you call a non-Atkin food.

Work the program, and it will work for you..

I've mainly been sticking with extended atkins foods. What foods should I add?

              Re: Hello!

Welcome aboard and congratulations on those 40 unwanted lbs gone! About time you de-lurked!

The closer you get to goal, the slower the weight loss. That's quite normal. Also, weight loss "pauses" do happen... also normal.

I'd second the advice that you make the move to OWL (ongoing weight loss). I'd definitely advise against adding anything to your menu that isn't Atkins friendly for your particular Atkins phase. Many have come a cropper with that "jump start" technique (so called). A move to OWL might indeed jump start your loss though. It does for many. Rung one is simply more veggies... and it's hard to gain weight with veggies. You can stay at rung one for quite some time, if you like.

The other thing to avoid is starvation mode. If you eat too little, your body will conserve body fat and you won't lose.

Have you read the book? If not, then Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - 2002 edition is the one you want and the one this board goes by. It was the last one written entirely by Dr A before his death, so it hasn't been interfered with. It's a huge help to understand exactly how and why this programme works.

Remember too that exercise is fundamental to weight loss. Also masses of water (preferably cold). I found that water was/is a huge help in losing weight. It takes a surprising amount of energy for your body to heat the water to body temp.

Keep us updated! We're behind ya!
