  • Here goes nothing

    Hi everyone,
I'm new here and my story is similar to many people here I'm sure. I was always kind of a chubby kid growing up - never really fat but never skinny either. I yo-yo dieted all my way through high school and when I went to college I gained a whopping "freshman 30." I managed to lose most of that through more yo-yo dieting and then my senior year of college I became severely depressed and ended up losing about 40 pounds because as result of my depression I became pretty much anorexic. I managed to stay very skinny throughout my early twenties and then around the time I turned 24 all the weight came back and it brought friends with it. I'm 28 now and since then I have overcome my depression, stopped doing a lot of the unhealthy things I was doing at the time (I quit smoking and doing other things that I won't mention here) but I haven't been able to drop the weight. In January I started the South Beach Diet because my mom tried it and lost 40 pounds. I lost about 10 pounds and managed to keep that off but as soon as I went to phase 2 all **** broke lose and I completely fell off. I did another round of phase 1 recently and I didn't really lose any more weight. Part of the reason for this is because I have been having a hard time motivating myself to excercise (which I know is not acceptable) but I also think I need something more strict. I don't do well with grey areas and I think Atkins is a better choice for me so...here goes nothing. I'm starting induction one week from today on May 19th. I'm tired of feeling bad about myself and having my life and thoughts revolve around being fat. It's really inspiring to see all the people on here who have done so well. I'm 5'7" and my starting weight is 159. My goal weight is 130.

As far as exercise goes do you like to dance? I just put on headphones with my favorite music and dance away. I think it's good to figure out what you LIKE to do and do it.
