  • 8 years and 3 kids later

I am redoing this diet. I first did it age 19, went from 165 to 135 in 3 months, which was a great weight for my 5'5 frame. I maintained for almost a year, then gained some back, and then got pregnant and gained a ton of weight. So here I am, my oldest just turned 6, my middle child 3, and my youngest is 10 months and still nursing. I know plenty about doing this diet while nursing and have the approval of various doctors, the most important being Dr. Thomas Hale, who exclusively studies medications and mothers milk, and has commented on ketones not being a problem.

I have done diets on and off but never with much success. I am inspired this year because I feel like my eating habits is the last thing that needs to fall into place for my otherwise healthy natural-minded lifestyle. I also have a goal of going to the water park with my husband and kids this Summer. With my various friends losing tons of weight (using WW, which frankly, I just do not have the willpower to do, I cannot do a diet where I can eat 1 brownie. I want to eat 10 brownies. I have to just cut out those kinds of foods) it feels like something has just clicked, and I dont even fear that I cannot stick with this diet. I guess my only fear is that I won't lose as well as I did before. Losing weight while nursing (did I mention I have been nursing 6 years straight LOL) has proven difficult for me, even when I stuck with it. Also, as a woman, someone who has been pregnant and nursed babies, and has to keep up with 3 kids, a diet that is high in protein and iron really works well for me.

I do not currently have any health problems, but I often have terrible anxiety so I know losing weight will help keep my hypochondria in check.

So I did not weight myself, but know from experience I am about 230. Today is day 6 of induction. My first goal is getting to 199. That feels great and then some of my other clothes will fit! I wear the same clothes over and over because I just do not want to shop in this size.

It was great finding this board today. I was really inspired by the stories and pictures and reassuring threads. Thanks for having me!!

Welcome, Shannon. It sounds like you are in a good place mentally, and really ready to make this a success. That is half the battle!

I know what you mean about nursing. I didn't gain a lot weight was I was pregnant -- less than 20 pounds with each kid. BUT, I gained while nursing. Sure, you burn alot of calories, but no one told me I'd be CONSTANTLY hungry!

I can't and won't comment on doing it while nursing, even though Dr A says not to. Sounds like you've done your homework.

        Best of luck to you!
