  • Needing motivation

Hi - I can use all the motivation tips anyone can provide - I know Atkins works as I have a couple friends who have been extremely successful; my problem is getting the motivation to start; I need to lose 50 pounds; I'm 50 years old and know that I can feel better than I do, if I would lose the weight. So I would luv to hear from you; how did you get going? Thks.

    Re: Needing motivation

Hi welcome. You can do it. You have to tell yourself that and believe it. You know it will work.

For me I just decided it was time to change so many of the bad habits that I had picked up that was making me fatter.
This board has been a lot of help. Great ideas and encouragement here and people who are in your shoes and understand.

Welcome!Well, if Lyssie's suggestion doesn't motivate you (lol...)...I will have to add, believe in yourself and find support at home (or here). Oh, and from what I've read, age is not a factor either Sometimes it's hard to find support at home, but that's why this board exists, right? To support everyone on this way of eating for life? Best wishes!

          Re: Needing motivation

I took pictures of myself from the front, side, and back in my underwear and then made them my desktop background on my laptop. Now I have to look at them every day.

Also, one of the best motivational tips for me (which is also the most important thing to do before you start) was taking the time and reading the book so you know exactly what you're supposed to do and you learn how and why Atkins works. Addtionally, take the time to read some of the threads in the before and after pics and the journal chats. Check out some recipes to see all the yummy food you can eat. This site is a great place with plenty of knowledgeable people to help and support you, and once you get started, the results you start to see will keep you motivated. I just started myself and I've already lost 6 pounds! Good luck!

            Re: Needing motivation

Hello there! I was tired of being the bog girl after being tiny all my life. I was tired of feeling tired all the time and I hated how I looked in pics when people took them. My goodness Atkins has been the BEST and the EASIEST way for me to shed the weight. Planning my meals and cooking was the key to my success. I drank a lot of water and exercise became a daily part of my life. I had to get away from the TV and MOVE! the before and after threads, journal chats, and journal stats keep me motivated to this day. Take lots of pics, you may not like em at first but once you get going with your weight loss you won't be able to stay away from the camera.I keep my book with me at ALL times and if I have a question I ask...don't think your questions are silly or even too complicated. I have been blown away at some of the things I have learned on this site.
            All the best!
