    Re: Starting the journey!

Well, that sweet stuff you mentioned is most likely sweetened with aspertame and that isn't allowed on the Atkin's diet. Some people do eat them but they have been known stallers for a lot of people too. The problem I had was it made me crave sweets and gave me a headache. Only when I totally got rid of artificial sweetners, was I truly crave freee. It is best to do without them if you can. Splenda is allowed but only 3 a day and you count one carb for each.

The hotdogs I eat are Hebrew National. They are a bit more expensive but they have less "crap" ingredients. I hope this was helpful!

      Hi welcome.
One of the rules of induction is to only eat the foods that is listed in the allowed list. I think that is a good rule to follow. It helps you get rid of many bad habits and establish a new relationship with food.
Here is a thread on acceptable induction foods:

          Re: Starting the journey!

Induction is the most important phase of Atkins... Don't touch any of those products listed.

You really want a CLEAN induction. Stick to those foods on the Induction List ONLY.

Make sure you keep your fat/protien/carb ratio at 65/30/5 %

And I wish you tons of whooshy fairies

If you are craving sweets, eat fat.
This probably doesn't sound appealing but it will stop any craving in it's tracks.

Eat a spoon of mayo (if you can make yourself) or olive oil... wait 5 minutes, and you'll be surprised how effective it is.

            Re: Starting the journey!

And, once you're over the addiction to sweets (if you do this the clean way you should be craving-free in less than a week) do not let yourself around them. Don't smell them, don't do the "eh, this one little bite won't hurt." That is the kiss of failure.

Remember, a recovering coke head wouldn't see a pile of cocaine and put a little dab on his tongue and walk away...

            We are all carb heads.

            Don't do it.

omg. a spoonful of mayo?! that's so disgusting. i prefer cream cheese... and when you move up the rungs you can add things to it... like 1oz cream cheese + half a packet of splenda... or 1T peanut butter (at the appropriate rung).

                  Re: Starting the journey!

I forgot to ask about results. What would you suggest an appropriate (realistic) goal is for weight loss each week? I know people that have done atkins and lose a ton of weight very fast and then there are some that lose at the 2lb per week rate like you would with any other diet.
                  Thanks!

                    Re: Starting the journey!

Try the mock danish. It really does the trick. I had one yesterday for the first time. Plus, you can make variations of it. I did the cinnamon one yesterday, didn't have any cinnamon so I used pumpkin pie spice. When you are off induction you can do a couple of strawberries whipped with a splenda and pour it over, like a crepe. It was delish!!! Does anyone know, can we have cool whip if we count it. 2 TBS is 1 to 2 grams of carb and 1 sugard???? That would be yummy too. You only need 1/2 a TBS.
