I just started a second round of Keto today. I am so excited.

...But I am frantically searching for keto recipes, because I have no imagination with my food whatsoever. If you have a tasty recipe, please leave it on my journal. I haven't seen any online, almost like it's a big Top Secret issue to post free online Atkins Recipes, ridiculous!

I have HIGH hopes that I will be able to stick to the program this time. I did well last time, until events took place that I allowed to make me backslide. Ugh, sighs...

Blessings to all of you and your goals! I can't wait to flip thru any pictures y'all have posted!

Here are some TIPS I found to be helpful to me my first time around:
    1. Coconut Oil Has a strong Ketogenic effect

    2. Cut KetoStix in half to make them last twice as long.

    3. During ketosis calcium, Vit D, Iron, Folic Acid, potassium and Sodium is spilled in the urine so supplementing those nutrients is needed. Sodium can be easily replenished with a broth. Potassium can be balanced with avocados ( which is 60% higher in potassium than bananas- bananas are banned from keto anyway) and ( are a quick fix for midnight leg cramps from this diet. )

    4. 12 to 15 NET Carb Grams should come from salad greens and other veggies

    5. Stick to only 20G Carbs per day- do your math

    6. Fiber supplement such as Phsyllium Husk Powder and Flaxseed are recommended in the early stages of the diet

    7. Weakness and exhaustion is to be expected the first several days as your body adjusts, so HANG in there! ADDING salt will help with this.

    8. About.com has a list of low carb veggies and low carb fruits

    9. The diet is not a license to gorge! eat when you are hungry and stop when you are comfy.

    10. Choose obvious "healthy fatty foods" NO FILLER MEATS such as: sausage links, hot dogs, bologna, meatballs, etc. ( Check the Labels to make sure you know if there are fillers or not )

    11. Snack every three hours

    12. Drink one half of your body weight in ounces of water. VERY IMPORTANT

    13. If you get shaky, fatigued, feel unusually bad, its probably a carb crash- solution: Eat more fat. Blood sugar levels are critical to the brain and body, so your brain won't let you go too far without throwing a tantrum. At this point, you'll feel hungry, possibly weak and shaky, maybe tired and some will even get a headache. You have now reached a level of carb depletion that opens a door to significant body fat loss.

    14. Supplement with caffeine and ephedrine. ( although some may experience sugar craves from caffeine )

    15. Consider using a Buddy System on this diet.

    16. Eat all the eggs you want. The body can only absorb the cholesterol of two eggs per day anyway, the rest is voided in urine or fecal matter.

    17. Use FITDAY.com to log your meals. The foods are already programmed to count carbs for you and the stats graph on food is a blessing to visually show you what you are doing when you eat.

    18. Fruit will bring you OUT of ketosis, avoid it at ALL costs.

Sounds like you are going into this prepared. That is very good. I personally would stay away from #14 if you could. It's just not good for you. Besides, coconut oil will raise your metabolism...or at least it seems to with me.

If you are missing something like a pear or an apple, eat some cold jicama, it has a nice crunch and once you get the sugar out of your system, you will taste the subtle sweetness of it.

The water might be too low. I was told you have to drink 64 ounces plus 8 ounces for every 25 pounds you want to lose. I drink at least 100 oz a day. I would have to do the math but it seems low for me to eat half my weight in ounces as I move ...wait, no, I think that's right. I have a headache, don't make fun.

I have recently lost a good chunk of fat on Atkins/Keto, so I took all of the info I have found to be helpful and try to make sure i share it with everyone.

I am into an organic diet, wholefood vitamins, natural medicine, etc... so I am not about to put down caffeine and ephedrine. To each their own, they say.

I stumbled accross coconut oil in 2005 and went thru about 12 jars before I found the ONE and only one I will eat. I thought I would never find one I could like the taste of. Now I add it to everything, even coffee and tuna.

What is cold Jicama? I will have to look that up. I usually just pop a fast acting carb tablet called glucose. It has 4Gs carbs. What a life saver those have been!

I got my water number intake from my Mayo Clinic doctor. I think he is great! So I value anything he suggests. So that brings me to 162.5 ounces of water per day. For you, Porcelain- it would be more like 95 ounces per day, if you still weigh 190.

        Nice to meet you, TTYLater!

          Nice to meet you too!

Jicama looks like a big brown turnip. I never heard of it before I started this diet but I keep mine in the fridge. It is on the salad veggie list on the induction thingy. On first glance, it looks a little too high carb but then you notice about half of them are fiber carbs. I like the taste and texture both.

Which is the coconut oil that you have? I have Jarrow formulas certified organic extra virgin coconut oil (expeller pressed). I like it with hot tea. I don't know if it did it to me but all of a sudden my metabolism rared up and I stopped taking it for a while. I just started back recently but I don't completely take it every day. I am slowly getting back into it.

I am on the berries rung so something I did today was to take four small strawberries, add two ounces of cream, water and blend a smoothie. After it was blended, I added a tbsp of flax seed oil. It was small, but it was nice and I got my flax seed oil in.

Good luck! See you 'round the board!

Okay then, I already did my shoppin today, for the next couple days, so on my next trip I will be sure to check it out- the jicama that is...

I use Spectrum, Expeller Pressed, Organic. Tonight I chopped up 14.00 worth of stew meat into small bite size pieces and added about 2 tbsp of the coconut oil. I will let it cook in the crock until tender, add spices and most likely freeze it into portions to be used for different meals. Last week was done this way as well, but with a whole bag of chicken breasts.

OMGosh, I love the smoothies and flaxseed to boot! Good job on that treat, . I love the smoothness flaxseed offers.

Over the last few days I have been preparing for this diet ( again ) and I began at midnight tonight, so I hope I have all of my armour on and ready for battle!

Blessings Porcelain- Xx Fat Skeleton xX

Remember though, you can't have those strawberries during induction. Not until the berries rung!

Did I say Tulip? I meant it looks like a tan turnip.

ACTUALLY! It does kinda look like an unflakey flatish big tulip bulb. If you use your imagination...a whole lot.

Breakfast was eggs scramb in hot salsa and the large meaty portbella mushrooms.. Spell check**

Dinner was just shrimp sauted in butter and seasonings, yum.

I snacked on pork rinds today, yuk, but its a good crunchy snack with some substance.

Made sure I drank up my fiber and vitamin shake too.

                        Exhales- another day down.

For the first week I am trying to limit them, but my hot salsa was made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, spices, etc... Also I drink the Alive! Multi shake vitamins ( whole food ) and it also is loaded with fruits and veggies. But next week I will add more fresh veggies. For now all I am using is my avocado dip and hot salsa. Oh and I listed the mushrooms I ate. THANK you for asking! I always ask others about their veggies too.
