  • Old Dieter New Atkinser

    Hi all,

Just started last week on Tuesday. I've lost 5 lbs already. I have been on weight watchers many many times and it used to work for me but this time I just couldn't do it. I decided to try this high protein diet and I think it's what my body needs!

Welcome! Please make sure you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition! It will explain how this way of life (WOL) works. It actually isn't a high protein diet at all. It's a low carb, high fat (good fats) diet. You want to be careful in how much protein you eat. Welcome to the boards and read the stickies they are incredibly helpful!

Hi Peacemom! Do heed Irishmom's warning. Your body is capable of converting excess protein into carbs. You should be eating (about) 65% fat 30% protein and 5 % carbs the first two weeks. Grab a book----it really is indispensible.
        Good luck in your journey

          Hey folks,

Thanks for the info. I was going by what I read on the official Atkins site:

"Learn to equip your kitchen with a core group of high-protein, high-fiber, low-sugar staples for continual preparedness"

          Peace out

            Peace out
They're scared of fat over there, it would seem! On Atkins, fat is truly your friend! And it makes everything taste so good too! Don't be afraid of fat, and add that to the kitchen cupboard/fridge too.

I'd join in the urging that you read the book. Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) is the one you want. That's the last one that Dr A wrote in its entirety before his death, so hasn't had other so called "experts" messing around with it. It's the one this board goes by.

Understanding the science behind this way of eating is a huge help.

Congratulations on your 5 lb loss. That's great! Also... welcome aboard!

Stick with it and stick with us. We're all in this together!
