    Hi my name is Amber!

    Here is a little of my story... I have never been known as overweight ... in junior high and high school I was always around 140 pounds and I am 5'9 ... but around 2 1/2 years ago I was in a car accident on a way back from a highschool football game I was cheering at and I am completely grateful for being alive. I was in a coma for over 5 months and I didn't know that when I woke up I would barely recognize myself. I gained over 40 pounds in those 5 months from not being able to excercise and from what they would feed me through the tube. When I woke up I gained even more weight just from being depressed and feeling like I haven't had anything to eat in years. Going through physical therapy got depressing, surgeries were equally depressing. I felt helpless and that made me hit the weight that I am now 232... I did lose some weight because originally I was 255 but I want/ need to lose more. I want to be the person that I saw everyday in the mirror. God... I think brought this upon me so that I can understand what it means to be self disciplined and that is exactly what I am doing... I am taking a stand.

    I am finally able to work out again without being in pain and some of my family who weren't even overweight did Atkins and lost a good bit of weight so I am ready to give it a try and am now on Day 6 of Induction. I want my self- esteem back because right now I have none.

    Thanks for listening to me... I cry everytime I talk, write or think about that day, thats how bad it gets.

    Good Evening and Welcome

    To me--your story resembles a Staircase,-- Accident, Recovery, and Rehabilitation..sure there were steps in between like you said: bad feelings, and depression and so on..But now you reach the top step and can start excercising! and you have started down by being in induction and discovering your worth it! Best yet--it's all down hill to your goal and a little bonus is at every rung there will be people and new friends you will meet on this board and they will keep you motivated, inspired and on coarse.

        Wow. What a story!
        I broke my knee 10 years ago and let myself gain about 50 pounds and I was feeling sorry for myself. Your story makes me look like the world's biggest wus!

          Welcome Amber! Thanks for telling us your amazing story. You've been in the wars, that's for sure.

          It's great that now you're starting to get active and do something for yourself. You have picked a great nic. If you live up to that and live, laugh and love... you'll find the road ahead much easier. Soon you'll see a new "you" when you look in the mirror, I'm sure!

                        Hey Amber Thanks for sharing your story with us. I'm so glad you found your way to the ADBB. You will find so much support and encouragement here. You have overcome so much in the past 2.5 years, you can certainly overcome this! We're all rootin' for you. I look forward to seeing you around the board.

                        P.S. New challenges are always starting up. Just go to the "challenges" forum, find one that suits you and it'll explain the rules and how to join. Some have deadlines to join but like I said there are always new ones starting up. Have fun and HAPPY LOSING!

                            Depends on the challenge really... some have a definite time span and a time to enroll, but most you can just hop along to the thread and ask to join. It's a good idea to look at the first post of the challenge thread, to read what it's all about and how to get going.

                            Kudos to you for wanting to join a challenge... they're fun and amazingly motivating.
