  • Hi I'm New with questions?

Hi my name is Marica, I am 41, 225lbs, female, former gastric bypass patient...was 310lbs 6years ago, lost down to 174, and gained back up to 240 and I am on my way back down. I have looked over the program and the food lists..the one thing that I am worried about is this...I take coumadin, a blood thinner, I cant eat alot of turnips, lettuce, grean veggis. Trouble is...I am not a big veggi fan other than salads. Can you eat string beans, or lima beans, black eye peas??? If you can I can make it on them, but I just dont know about eating having basically no vegis that I like 5 days out of the week...I can eat salads like 2 days a week without it screwing up my blood levels.

IF peas, and beans are ok, this will be great...or if anyone else is on coumadin and are doing ok with this diet please share what you are doing.

    THanks a million.

I do not take coumadin but my Dad does and he said:

Broccoli,BrusselSprouts,Spinach, swisschard, corrian der, collards, cabbage, and other green leafy vegatables reduce the effects of coumadin because of the vitamin K they have. His warning label states to not change the amounts of these foods in your diet without discussing it with your doctor.
also the label states: Avoid sudden changes in your diet.

Please speak with your doctor he/she will supply you with the correct diet like he/she did for my dad

so your dad is on the adkins diet??? seems like they would have to really give you a high dosage of the coumadin for you to be able to eat the vegis mentioned in your post. but it sure would be nice to be able to eat them and be on the diet..

No my Dad is not on the Atkin's diet...He is on a diet his doctor planned out for him. My Dad is 73 and I'm sure your doctor advised diet will be different from his. In his case he really needed to start moving..It's great to see him walking the dog in the A.M. now!

            LOL
sounds like your husband has a group of friends also.
there are 9 of us now and we have a lodge in Brewer, Maine
we bring our wives and older children with us. and I know the wives have such a great time(they don't hunt, just drink, laugh and endless talking, it seems to me..LOL) and they look forward to it as much as we do.

The pic was taken a few weeks ago in Monterrey, Mexico. I hit it off with my client and he invited me to his lodge---This was his elk
and it is a great source of pride for him

My husband is not on Atkins, but his is on coumadin, for life. He eats loads of veggies.
It's true, certain veggies do have an effect (brassicaceous ones especially - is that what they're called??) but he balances ok. I think you kind of get the feel for what you can eat after a while, but veggies are A-ok!

Always best to run any major changes past your doctor though.
