  • Nice to have found you here!

Warning! The Big Bertha's here! As in The Big Bertha. I'm not really Bertha, I'm Vera from the not-so-sunny Canada. But what is certain is that I'm big. as in...rounded and fat. As in ugly and obese. Like a Canadian Grizley bear. Or maybe like a woman who just didn't respect her body for too long.

I'm 33 yo, 1m59cm (aprox. 5ft3) and at the beginning of this year I weighted 92kg (203lbs). I've been trough an inhuman low calories to almost starving diet in january and I dropped a couple of pounds 84kg (185lbs) but it was difficult like ****, I was starving like an 16th century prisoner in Bastille and I've ended by slowing down my metabolisme and reaching a giant plateau.
So, here I am, june 2008, starting the induction in Atkins. It is only my first week but I already dropped to 82kg (180lbs).

I hope I will learn a lot of things from you and I will get the support I need in my journey. Thank you for being here for me, thank you for your existence!

    And now, godspeed!

    Hi, Vek

    Welcome to ADBB!

Aren't you glad that you've found a way to get healthy and lose weight without starving yourself? This way of living rocks.

Tell me, have you read the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution yet? That is the book that this board follows, and advice is given based upon that. It's a valuable source of information and motivation.

It's great that you have found us here. This board has been a key to my success, for sure. I've learned a lot, made a lot of friends, and have found much support. There's something for everyone here, and I hope you are able to take the time to explore it fully. Here are a few links to get you started. The last one is to a website that a lot of us use for recipes. Good Luck!

Thank you for the hot welcomings! I apreciate your answers a lot!
As for Dr. Atkins new book, I acquiered it a couple of years ago in french. (That's the mistery of my so-many spelling mistakes, I'm a french speaker from Quebec).
I've read the book then and I'm reading it now again. It doesn't stop to amaze me. The carbs theory looks so simple and so clair that you end up feeling guilty about the tones of candies and cookies you've eaten during so many years while clothes in your wardrobe became thighter and thighter...

As for visualizing my diet and my goals, yes, I did that too:
5 steps of 9kg each (aprox 20lbs each):
                1. My first goal was not to be a 2nd degree obese anymore (92kg-84kg)-accomplished
                2. My second goal is not to be obese at all. (83kg-75kg) - I'm on this road now
                3. My 3rd goal will be not to be overweighted anymore. (74kg-66kg)
                4. My fourth goal will be to be a normal sized person.(65kg-57kg)
                5. My fifth goal will be to be beautiful and sexy and liberate the real ME under the opression of fat!(56kg-48kg)

Re: Nice to have found you here!

Well, thank you for asking me, dear Liv. I'm quite fine, I haven't cheat at all during my first week, yet something strange had happened.
Yes, I know it's not a good ideea to weight myself everyday but I simply can't stop doing this, it's kinda stronger than me. The strange thing I want to tell you about is that one day during this week I was dieting and doing nothing, no exercising, absolutely nothing. Just sitting around like a potato. Yet, next morning I noticed that I lost almost 2lbs! The next day, I was eating the SAME things like before, the SAME quantity and I worked HARD in my garden, under the hot sun for 8 hours! Real hard work like digging, planting trees, carrying heavy objects, etc. I was sweating and I was very tired after such a day full of phisical work. Yet, next morning, I checked my weight to see that I lost NOTHING AT ALL! Not even 0,000000001lb! Nada! Zilch! How is that possible?

Re: Nice to have found you here!

It is very common. The scale does not really always tell the truth. What happens when you have a sudden hard workout is that all your muscles will hang on to water to help them repair and recover and it will seem like you gain weight but it is just water that will come off once the muscles adjust.
I think it is OK to weigh yourself daily ONLY if you know how easily weight will go up and down for no apparent reason. Some people get so hung up with the scale that a weight gain will make them turn to illegal food because they get discouraged.
Are you keeping an eye on your measurements as well?
