  • Getting my act together for the "real world"

Hi! I'm 22 and I just graduated from college. Basically I've been depressed because of the crazy transition......moving away from all my friends, trying to find a job (unsuccessfully so far), and moving to a new place. I've felt lonely and unsettled.....so in the last 8 weeks I've really packed on some pounds, and feel disgusting! I just need some support because I've been feeling really down lately, and now I just feel gross too!

My current weight is 139, my previous weight was 124, and my goal weight is 120. My first mini-goal is 130, hopefully by the end of the induction phase! I'd like to be 125 by August and 120 by September!

I'm a runner; I ran XC & track competitively for 8 years, and now I run ultramarathons, but honestly I've been too depressed and lazy to do anything the last 2 months, so I'm getting back into running too and just joined a running club so I have some people to work out with hopefully!

I need to get my act together! "Real" life is supposed to be starting now!

Anyways, that's a little about me and everyone on here seems really friendly from what I've seen, so I hope to be supported and also give support!

Hi amph! It's good you're starting early with only a bit to lose. It only gets tougher if you don't take care of it right away!

Go out and start running again. Even a half mile to start. You probably are a bit depressed and the exercise will lift your mood and make you start feeling like you again. Sounds like you are losing the person you liked with all the stress. Totally understandable. My son went through a similar thing. It also sounds like you are aware of what's happening which means you are halfway home. You have made a choice to reclaim yourself and as soon as things start to turn around you will feel better about everything else too. We are all here to help and I know that you can turn this around quickly.

        FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Re: Getting my act together for the "real world"

Welcome aboard. It is a great thing that you are starting this before you have too much to lose! I do want to prepare you that the average weight lost during induction is about 10 percent of what you need to lose. So please don't be disappointed if you don't lose the 9 pounds during induction!!! Lots of people much heavier than that sometimes do not even lose that much. So, anyway..prepare for that. The bright side is that because you have so little to lose that every pound is going to make such a difference on you! Also..since you are so close to goal I would recommend that after induction that you start climbing the rungs so that you can learn your bodies likes and dislikes and how to maintain your weight loss. Please measure yourself as well because a lot of time when the scale is not moving the inches are...especially if you are exerciseing. And muscle weighs more than fat. Get out a pair of your skinny jeans...try them on...then hang them where you can see them for inspiration. JMO.

                Welcome aboard!
I agree with Jill... the running will help lift your mood. Also, every successful Atkins day is a step nearer to goal. You'll soon be feeling better about yourself and that will help tremendously.

Happy losing! You can do it.
