  • I had to sign up...

    Hello all...

My name is Justin, and I am a carb-o-holic

haha anyways, I just wanted to join up here so that I may join in some conversations here and there to help myself through my weight loss journey. I have been lurking here for the last month and reading various tips.

I had done Atkins back in 2003 or so, and had some success...but then went on a carb rampage!

My wife has helped me try to maintain my weight, and I have tried nutrisystem, jenny craig, etc etc...and although I haven't had major success, I have kept myself from getting TOO far out of control by always at least attempting to control myself.

I was 316 (highest in my life) last October when my wife had our son. I went on JC on and off over the holidays which helped me through the rough time, and have been on Atkins now for about 1.5 months...Overall, I am down 30 pounds from that 316 weight, and atkins is responsible for about 20 of it.

I don't think I have followed this plan to the T....I supposed I am still basically on induction still at this time...I eat less than the 20g of carbs per day, and stick to no more than one atkins bar per day. I have a hard time giving up the diet mountain dew/coke zero, but am working on that the last few days and drinking only water and crystal light.

A big thing for me is I do enjoy alcohol, and that is definitely something that appeals to me about this diet is that on the weekends, I can have a few mixed drinks, and it won't throw me completely off...only stall my losing. I can't give everything I love up all at once ....

So anyways my goal weight is 220, or even 200 although at 220 I would be so happy and feel so good about that, that I could be comfortable there. I am a big guy naturally so I really couldn't see myself under 200...

Sorry if this introduction got a little lengthy

Welcome Justin... You sound like you know the in's and out's of things. Support is one of the most important things, and you've definately found the right spot for that. Good Luck and hopefully we can keep in touch during your journey...

Re: I had to sign up...

Hiya Justin and welcome! Good to have you with us. Congrats on your 30 lbs lost so far.

You know... if I were you, I'd make the move to OWL. That way you'll soon be at the alcohol rung and won't need to cheat. Like you, I love a drink or two. My fav is a glass of red wine in the evenings.

The other thing I'd be wary of is the Atkins bars. Many many people stall eating those. Whatever they say on the package, they are loaded with all sorts of ingredients that are not induction friendly, so you need to take these into account at whatever stage of the diet you're at.

Post lots and keep us updated as to your progress. We're all in this together!

doesn't crystal light have aspartame? I think it's like the same as diet soda. Anyway, hope I didn't burst your bubble, welcome to ADBB!

i believe crystal light in the liquid ready to drink form has splenda, and the powder mix type has aspartame....

according to a quick google search anyways.

                    Welcome!

A piece of advice, if you haven't invested in one yet, is to own the 2002 edition of Dr. A's book that he wrote. You'll get a lot more info on the ins and outs along with this site of the basics. We toss around a lot of short names for this woe (way of eating) for quick typing OWL=on going weight loss (aka: moving up the OWL rungs).

                    Hope that helps!
