I'm Ruth, and new to this (Atkins).
I started Induction on Monday (6-30), but have had a few days that I did not adhere to it properly (I had my family in, haven't seen them for a long time, and had a little wine on 2 occasions). However, I have been counting carbs, and not exceeding 20 grams (except for one day--when I backtracked, I realized that I MAY have consumed around 20.8 grams). Most of the time, I actually eat less than 20, simply because I'm not that hungry and I don't want to force food on myself.
Despite that fact that I've been cheating, I've already noticed some good results. In addition to the decrease in appetite, I'm wearing a dress that I tried on about 2 weeks ago that didn't look good around my tummy when I sat. Today, it looks OK.
I am coming at this program as a mostly vegetarian (I occasionally ate shellfish--I'm allergic to regular fish, and yes, I know that's weird) who avoided dairy. Now, I'm eating cheese (which I had started to experiment with before starting Atkins), and lots more eggs and shrimp than I had been. Still not using butter, but I AM using VAST amounts of olive oil and a fair amount of mayo.
I'm OK with my food variety for now. I MIGHT add some meat in the future, but have some ethical concerns about that, so we'll see. If I do add meat, it will definitely be free-range (I usually only eat cage-free eggs). But, so far, so good.
I'm counting today (Sat., 7-5) as my TRUE beginning of Induction--since my family is gone
, the wine thing won't be a problem, so cheating will be non-existent, hopefully.
I am pleasantly surprised that I can eat a fair amount of veggies. I am definitely a carb addict, but was not a junk food person, and I LOVE my VEGGIES.
I haven't weighed myself, and don't plan to for a little while. (I know it's advised, but I know myself well enough to feel that I might get defeated and discouraged if I weigh myself just yet.) I will definitely keep on top of weight to maintain.
That's it for now.
