  • Desperate Cajun

I do not even know if I am using this board the correct way. My name is Carylon. I can remember the first time I became conscience of my weight. I was 12 years old and my weight was 135 lbs. I can remember battling a weight problem from then. The largest I have ever been was 185 lbs. normally and 210 lbs. when I was pregnant. I've been on every kind of diet that came along and used every kind of weight loss drug or vitamin supplement I was ever told about. I am currently 39 years old. I am 5'6" and weigh 154 lbs. I would llike to be 130 lbs. because I have a small frame. I started the Atkins program two weeks ago tomorrow. I have followed the induction level very closely and have lot lost a lb. I have not given up though. My mother lost 30 lbs. back in the 70's by following Dr. Atkins original program. That is why I went out and purchased his new one. I have also been testing my urine first thin in the morning with the ketone strips. They barely turn pink. I probably sound like I am rambling. This is because I am typing just as the things come to my mind. I am desperate to lose some weight and I am disgusted at this very moment. I still will not give up, but I could sure use some advise for encouragement. Also, I have a big appetite. This is my story. Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Carylon

    Re: Desperate Cajun

    Hi, Carylon

    Welcome to ADBB!

First, a question - when you say that you purchased the "new" program, which one do you mean exactly? The reason I ask this, is because this particular bulletin board is based around the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short). Since the death of Dr. Atkins, the plan has been changed somewhat by Atkins Nutritionals (the company). I have read the books put out since the 2002 DANDR, and there are some fundamental differences that could prevent you from losing as well as the 2002 version. The main difference being, that the company advocates low carb convenience shakes and bars on a daily basis, which are known stallers. Among other things, they also don't stress working through the rungs as methodically as the 2002 DANDR.

I'm glad that you've found this board - it is an amazing place, with something for everyone. Here are a few links to get you started (the last one is to a website that a lot of us use for recipes). And you may want to post some of your specific menus (include beverages, and amounts on everything) in the Review My Menu forum. Perhaps someone may catch something that you are overlooking.

You also may want to add some stats to your signature... these will show each time that you post, and will help us to help you. You can include age, height, starting date, starting weight, current weight, and goal weight. You do that by going to the blue bar at the top and clicking on "Quick Links", then clicking on "Edit Signature" on adding your info. Easy!

One more thing - I am curious about the title to this thread... Desperate Cajun. You wouldn't happen to be in Louisiana, would you?

I was wondering the same thing Mitzi. I am not living in Louisiana now but I was born and raised in New Orleans and I still visit my family there as often as I can.

Welcome to the board Carylon! Weight loss can be a slow process especially since you don't have too much to lose but keep in mind that Atkins is a way of life not a quick fix. Stick with the program and you will definitely see results! Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is to take your measurements. A lot of times people get down on themselves when the scale isn't moving and they are not actually stalled because they are losing inches.

Here's some threads that might be helpful to you:

And please don't hesitate to ask questions or for support often! That's what the boards are for. Good luck!

        Re: Desperate Cajun

HEy welcome to the place that will help you reach your goals. IT is helping me.

Sometimes it take a bit to kick this plan into gear for some people. I have read dozens of stories of people losing incredible amounts of weights on induction. I lost on induction but not huge... IT was so dissapointng actually I did not record the actual stats... BUT since then I have been in constant ketosis... as long as you have a change in the colour from neutral to pink you are passing ketones... I have also lost about 40 lbs as I have remained on extended induction. I do not cheat with my carbs. I am below 20 grms of carbs every day, I am rarely hungry. I am doing some things wrong... I don't drink enough water... but I am drinking fresca and diet coke... I am stopping though. If you are drinking diet pop.... stop.

I hope you keep at it. You can do it. BE patient. Your body may be holding out on you thinking your going to give up.... especially if it is a trained dieting machine as you say. Keep at it and one day when you do your measurements you will be blown away.
