  • Here goes nothing...

Okay I really hate these introduction things but I've been lurking all week and got the friendly email asking me to introduce myself, so here I am. My name is Stacey and I'm a 29 year old working mom of 2 girls. I accidently started Atkins on Tuesday July 8th.

I say accidently because I have a friend who is doing it and I decided to look into in a bit more after the weekend had passed. Well I did a lot of online research on Monday, with every intention to buy the book (2002 edition) this week and get started reading before I really started doing Atkins. I also wanted to have some of my favorite foods that I would be saying goodbye to. Well Monday night we went to dinner at my parent’s house and afterwards my mom sent my husband and me home with a pound or more of grilled steak. I guess I decided that was a sign and I should start while I have all this free meat in the house.

So I started Tuesday without any carb binges in the days prior. I have done well thus far, unless I'm making mistakes, LOL. I did in fact buy the book yesterday and have started reading it. I forgot to weight myself until Wed morning but I'm usually about 154 so that's what I estimated my starting weight was. I weighed 148.6 as of this morning so it seems to be working.

My biggest problems are lunches at work that are filling, and cutting out diet soda. As for lunch, I can't just have a couple of slices of lunch meat and some cheese. The soda thing is because I tried black coffee day one and couldn't do it so I just stopped coffee cold turkey and have a soda most mornings instead.

Okay I apologize for the long post, (and this from someone who hates intros). I'm hoping all the support here will continue to be as helpful as it has been so far. Thanks all!

You're doing great! A couple of suggestions... first, read the label on the deli meat. If it has sugar anywhere in the list of ingredients, stay away! Usually the sevings are low (e.g. 1 slice) and the sugars are around 0.9 grams, so the companies are allowed to post 0g carb. If you have 4 slices, those carbs could catch up to you... and they aren't exactly healthy carbs. They are sugar. Also, if you MUST have soda, try Diet Rite... it is made with Splenda and not aspartame like all the other brands. Just some helpful advice to help you along your journey!

        Best of success!
