  • New to Board....

Today my son(11 yrs old) and I are starting the Atkins diet. I am hoping our success with Atkins will be as great as some of the peoples stories we have read on here, I have struggled with my weight off and on all my life and now he is doing the same. I had a thyroid ablation in 2004 and I have gained about 30 pds or so since then...I would like to blame the thyroid for that LOL. Anywho....today we start over....AGAIN.

    Good luck Stacey and son.
Make sure that your son eat a modified version - a child should not be too limited - but healthy carbs will make a lot of a difference.
    Good luck to you both

Teen boys especially need calcium so make sure he is getting enough, even if it means drinking some milk to do it. And, if yours is like mine, turn off the computer or Xbox and get some outdoor exercise time.

          Hi Stacy,

Welcome and congrats for taking charge and making a change. Being a fat kid all my life, I can say that your son will appreciate what you're doing for him. However, I'm not sure that starting him on induction is the healthiest thing. Maybe start him on phase 2 so he can get some fruit? He'll still lose rapidly. Also, don't forget a calcium supplement and plenty of leafy greens!

          Best of success!
