  • Getting Ready To Take The Plunge

    Hi my name is Missy and I am a carboholic. Seriously - I am also about 85 lbs overweight and after seeing pictures of myself recently, I am motivated to start the next, healthy, chapter of my life. I had some success with a low carb/gym routine a few years ago that got me down to where I am now, but that's about it. A few years ago I moved a considerable distance from where I grew up and the stress + not being able to afford food for 2 weeks helped me drop to 190, but slowly and surely, with the help of a lot of beer, I have crept back to 230 territory.

    I am planning on starting this Saturday 19-Jul-08, simply b/c I need to go grocery shopping, eat all the carbs in my house and I have an event that I will be drinking at on Friday.

    I have been looking online and reading the Atkins book about what to stock in the pantry but any tips would help. Giving up beer will be the hardest :-(

    Congratulations on making the decision. You will be so happy when you get thinner that you did this.
    I suggest taking one day at the time. Sometimes we get overwhelmed if we take everything in at once. But most of us can deal with almost anything 'one day at the time".

          I think at one time many of us on this board were carbaholics, I agree with the others the best way is to take it one day at a time. You can do it.

            not being a drinker i dont have experience to help with the beer but maybe if you taper off.. i mean if you dring 3 beers a week try and make it 2 then 1 then maybe half ? start drinking diet soda when out with friends and maybe eventually change to water ? or if you can avoid the drinking areas ? is it a weekly nite out w/ friends ? or just at "so and so's" house ? maybe a change of venue ? meet at a resturaunt instead of the bar ?? just some suggestions from someone who is really clueless.. sorry just trying to help
