  • where do i start...?

hi everyone, my name is chelsie and i am new to all of this. i have been wanting to loose some weight now for about a year and i usually work out but the weight never goes away i just always seem to tone up my arms and legs, never my waist or stomach. I am only 19 and when i started dating my boyfriend of 4 years i started to put weight on. we would always go out to dinner and never really watched what i ate. I used to be a size 8 and would love to be there again. I just moved u to a size 12 a few weeks ago and after that i started working out hard but i knew i needed to make more significant changes too. I had already cut back on my portioning and what i ate going out to dinner- i now get a grilled chicken salad or something along the salad lines.

    *sorry this is long

once i talked to my parents about what i wanted to do with all my working out my stepdad told me about atkins. he tried it once years ago i guess and said it worked amazingly, so i got on the internet and started looking at what it consisted of and wanted to hear success stories and wow there is a bunch! - which is wonderful!! good job. after reading those for at least 2 hours i thought i would give it a shot. i wrote down some things i can and cannot eat. i also looked at the 2 week meal plan that is already set up and i don' know if i can always cook like that for every meal--- do all of you guys do the meal plan thing or just make your own stuff??? and if so what do you eat??

sooo i'm going to try and do this- hopefully everything will work out =)!
    thanks, chelsie

    buy the book first...
As far as the book goes, you need the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). I found my copy in a thrift store for $1. It is the last book Dr. A was involved in before his death and the one this board follows Good Luck!

You can start by reading the book and familiarizing yourself with what you can and cant eat while on Atkin's. Also stay true to you and stay focused. God Bless, Joe

I agree with the above posters. Read the book and refer to it often. If you try to wing it you will most likely find that you've been doing it wrong and have to start over. Also, the book is a powerful motivational tool in that it teaches you the science behind why and how Atkins works which will help you to accept the fact that this is a way of life and not just a quick fix. Good luck and hope to see you round the boards. If you gave any questions feel free to ask. Everyone here is very helpful.

          Re: where do i start...?

Hi Chelsie! The previous advice is correct. Buy/borrow the book and immerse yourself. Be sure you understand the whole concept and the bodily processes that will take place and why. Don't try to mix and match with Atkins and other diet plans. Having lost over 50 pounds and kept it off for five years I can tell you that it is not just a diet but a lifestyle that is not difficult to sustain. You may have to limit your carbs but you will be able to "take back" a lot of other delicious foods that we have always thought we couldn't eat while losing weight and maintaining. I joke that one of my main food groups is Planters spanish peanuts. They were/are invaluable to me for satiety though it's been so long since induction that I'm not sure if they are allowed in the beginning. Also, take heart from all the success stories in the book and on this board. They are proof that Atkins works and that you will be healthier and happier for doing it. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
