I have MS and have restricted walking now. That means exercise is a problem. And I have a lower back fused in 3 places - so now sit-ups and so on are out. Over the past few years I have put on a bunch of weight. Last week the doctor told me it looks like I am slipping into Type 2 Diabetes. Am NOT having with that !!

Have had nutrition classes in the past as well as Vegan but these have not helped in weight control. I am the type of person who needs a set plan to follow. So with the scare of Type 2 looking at me I started doing the reading. Atkins seems to fit me ;; weight loss but not meat deprivation. And I love veggies.

I am a 67 Senior male who lives alone and do all my own cooking. Healthy weight for my 5'7" is 155# but I will take anything in that area. CW is 238 (gasp!). I started Induction on Jul 16. First goal is 225. I have the older version of the book and read it twice this week. Ordered the new version and the DVD.

I am already sick of just meat and eggs. I like to cook. So now I am reading everything I can to find recipes that will add a little variety and fun to this. Simple ones. I can't get to the store often so I can't get elaborate.

    Re: Shy Senior

welcome Mike... I am glad you are here. I believe you will have success doing this diet. You can have losses without exersize the way this diet is designed, exersize is obviously recommended, but in your situation not viable... get some light weight hand weights and do some strenth training... I am sure you know already that increased muscle mass burns more fuel/calories and will also be good for your MS.
I know some other girls here will respond with some fantastic recipee sites... they have them bookmarked I don't...
I wish you tones of success... this is a great place for support!
keep us posted on your progress!

Hi Mike! You've come to the right place for a lot of great information and support! To start you off, here's a favorite recipe site:
Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home
The recipes marked with an * are induction friendly. There's no reason to limit yourself to just meat and eggs. It's good that you like veggies. There's a lot of cool things you can do with cauliflower, for instance. Check it out! Good luck!

Mike welcome you came to the right place.
You probably know there are a variety of ways to do the meat and eggs, and lots of other choices out there like turkey and bacon. When I cut up a little peppers and cook that before pouring in the eggs, and then add some swiss cheese I have a great omelet. If you like fish, take a can of tuna, add mayo, add chopped up romaine lettuce or celery and you have a great tuna salad. I keep a few tuna cans in the fridge so it is chilled-what a treat actually lol. Like others I use fitday.com to plan and track meals and my day.
You are smart to read the book a couple times. Every time I pick it up or read a posting here I learn something useful.
Best of luck with your journey. Looking forward to seeing you on the ADBB.
