  • Been checkin out this site for a year decided to join.

    Hi all,
My name is Melean, let me tell you a little about myself. I am new to the site but, familiar with the diet. I have done Atkins on and off since the late 90's. Tried many other diets and excercise programs and failed miserably!

I grew up as a chubby girl. I wouldn't say super heavy but a little chubby. Until high school I slimmed down to 145-150lbs. I am 5,7in. tall. I was thin at that weight but litterally had to starve myself to get there and worked out like a maniac!
In my 20's I got married and worked full time and still continued to crash diet here and there as well as work out like mad. Until around 1997 I noticed I started to put on lbs. No matter how hard I tried to lose I just kept slowly gaining and gaining (and hadn't had any children yet )
Then one day at work a freind of mine mentiond the Atkins plan. I was so sceptical and frusterated with diets and excercise! I relunctatly decided to try it with her. The induction was a killer. I was so used to eating rice/popcorn , anything low calorie. It was hard to think low carb not low cal. After two weeks, to our amazment we started to lose weight. I had tons of energy and the lbs. kept melting off. We were ecstatic we found something that really worked and didn't zap your energy.
All this came to a halt in 1999 when I got very sick and was diagnosed with hypo-thyroid disease.
So from there on I have pretty much gotten my thryoid under control but still struggle with very slow weight loss if any.
my goal is to get healthy and lose 50-60 lbs.
As much as I hate to work out now at 38yrs old I want and know I need to do it to become more healthy.
Thank you all for the inspirational before, after, during pics you post. They have really inspired me to try harder and get healthier as well as jump back on the atkins wagon.
I am now 4 days into induction and have already dropped 6lbs. So very excited and looking forward to many more lost.

    Hi!
Welcome to the board. I too did Atkins years ago lost weight and fell off the plan. I am back now and working hard on a 60-100 pound loss. I am exercising about 7 hours a weekd oing jazzercise and they tell me a 60 pound loss will put me where I want to be with the muscle you gain. Best of luck to you.

This is a very supportive board so joining was a great idea.

(By the way, your font is kind of hard to read, unless you are really attached to it, you might change to something clearer. it might just be how itshow up on my computer though.

          Welcome!
Congrats on your new commitment and for stepping out of the 1s and 0s of cyberspace and into the forum. It will be good for you and it will help us also and we all have something valuable to add.
On the exercise, sounds like you already know the score, but from what I learned starting up about a month ago is that it will be painful to get going, but after a few weeks you will want to exercise and will look forward to it. There is a great thread on strength training for women (and men) and I recommend reading it.
