  • Starting fresh!

I am starting fresh with the atkins diet this week. I have been trying to loose weight for several months now with not much success. I have tried many different diets but nothing seems to be working.

I have done Atkins before many years ago with success, so I thought I would give it a try! I already have all the books and things, just need to refresh my memory of the way it’s done properly. I am really trying to do a clean induction....the only thing that I am finding difficult is only drinking water! I usually drink mostly water, but I drink tea as well. I know that caffeine can mess you up, and I usually sweeten it with sweet-n-low which I am not sure if it is allowed. I don’t think that I am addicted to caffeine by all means, just would like something different to be able to drink. So for now, I am just sticking to the water! It is my second day of clean induction, I started sat, but I had drank some tea and ate something on accident that was not allowed, so I am not really counting that day.....happy to be here and hopeful for great results!!

    Hi QueenBee,
Three sweeteners are allowed per day during Induction. I know the water is hard at first but it gets easier. If you don't have the 2002 book, get it and read it. It will keep you on course and answer many questions. A number of things have also changed from earlier versions of Atkins. Welcome to ADBB. You will find a great support network here.

      Re: Starting fresh!

Thanks!! This site seems to have a great support system and the answer to a lot of questions! I think I have the 2002 book....the title is Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.....is that the correct one? I also have two or three of the other supporting books.

The water thing is getting easier now on the second day. I have seen the limitation of the sweeteners posted on here too, I would have to figure out how much would be in one glass because I make a whole pitcher at a time and use the kind in the big bag, not the individual packets. I figured I could at least go the two weeks without it though.

Wow, this is great because I guarantee if you can go 2 weeks without it, you will be able to go without it for good! I was a major Diet Soda addict and did not think that I could kick the habit...well I promised myself 2 weeks and it's been over a month now and have only ever had water....ever! I actually crave it now, it's amazing, I have never loved water so much in my life....actually, I've never loved water at all, until now!
Keep up the good work, you can and will succeed!

Jane, I'm like you I drink a lot of water and like it, but I do still want something else once in awhile, but I am nowhere near the soda fiend I once was.

              Re: Starting fresh!

              Hi QueenBee,
Welcome, I'm a newbie to the board too. I'm not much of a 'joiner' of forums etc to be honest, but I landed here whilst Googling, and just had to join up. It is a terrific place and I'm hooked!

About the water, for me it's similar to what Desert Rain says - when I started I struggled to drink enough and really didn't want it, I was just drinking it because I had to, but I found that after about a week I wanted more water and actually began to enjoy drinking it. I'm on my third bout of Induction now (one several years ago, one in March this year, and this current one, and this has been the case every time for me. I'm determined to stick with it this time, and I know this board will be a great help.

Stick with it and you'll see results. Good Luck.

Welcome. Drink plenty of water and read the book again. I have read it twice and was surprised by some of the things I missed the first time.

Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement and advice. I am on day 3 and doing well and already down 3 pounds which I think is great especially because my TOM started yesterday! I am drinking the water more and more and it’s not too bad anymore. This is a great board and I think it will help me out a lot! Thanks again!
