  • Starting fresh

After success on Atkins 6 years ago, I fell into old habits and regained 50 pounds. Lost a bit with WeightWatchers; but 20 points isn't enough food to feed a rabbit and every day or two I would attack anything edible.

I hope I have learned my lesson that this isn't a temporary "diet;" but is a new way to live my life.

Thankfully, DH, is going through the lifestyle change that is Atkins or any low carb program with me.

I am on the first day of Induction week two and have barely cracked ketosis. I am watching my carbs like a hawk and have lost 2 pounds in week one. I remember my last attempt with low carb, I broke into ketosis within a couple of days.

On the more personal side, I have been married for 12 years, a registered nurse for 15, and a mom for 10. I love to read, hike(and look forward to having more energy again to really enjoy it), knit, and cooking.

I am thrilled I found this board. I look forward to reading hints and tips and posting my silly newbie questions.

    Thanks,

from one newbie to another, keep coming here, keep reading and keep up the good work ! from what i hear you can expect to lose 5-10% of your goal wt loss during induction, i had TOM during induction and it was a downer.. however 13 lbs in one month is still not too shabby.. it all adds up !

      Re: Starting fresh

      Hi vhspot,

I never show that I am in ketosis on the stick but the cravings are gone and I am losing. My reaction to the sticks was different each time I did Atkins so I think it changes with your own changes. I find each time I do this WOE I lose less in Induction and the weight comes off slower. Part of it is age (first time was in my 20s, then at 41 and now at 47) and my hormones are in the equation too. Some of this may be a factor for you too. But even if it isn't a quick fix, it will work. I have found that approaching it as a permanent way of life rather than a diet helps. I also have come to the conclusion that I cannot give my body deadlines and my best goals are about focusing on doing things right, rather than on the number on the scale. Maybe some of this will ring true for you too. Bottom line is, it is working.

Welcome to ADBB. You will find great support here. Wishing you well on your journey.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
