  • starting today!

I'm Kerry and I have struggled with my weight for pretty much my entire life. I am getting married in a few months and am ready to start fresh. Since meeting my soon to be husband and starting a desk job I have managed to gain approx 35 pounds and I want it gone for good. I have heard good things about Atkins and hope that I can make it a lifestyle. Any advice anyone has would be great!!

    Re: starting today!

First advice: Get the book and read it before you start. Then be prepared to do a clean Induction for best longterm success. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Welcome aboard! Nice to have you join us here at ADBB.

I'll second Jill's advice: Read the book. It's invaluable, and understanding the science behind the diet is a huge help. The one you want is: Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 edition. That the one this board goes by as it was the last one written in its entirety by Dr A before his death.

Remember that exercise is an important part of the programme too.

      Happy losing!
      Before and after:

          Re: starting today!

Welcome and congratulations on you up coming wedding! You must be very excitted!!!

I just started back on Atkins and I have to say it does work (I know this from past experience on it). Sadly I went away from it years ago and shouldn't have. I regret that very much but I am back on it now and I am already feeling better for it....I already feel my energy has increased in a few short days of eating differently.

I agree with everything said regarding purchasing the book and reading it. I ran out yesterday and purchased it because I couldn't find the original copy I purchased years ago. I think I'm on the 4th chapter as of this morning. It's incredibly informative and helps a lot.

It's good to have you here!

            Welcome Kerry!
Chinadoll will answer ... and I will give it a try: "Clean Induction" means follow what the book says to the letter for the first two weeks. This will get your body burning stored fat rather than being fueled by daily carb intake. People often feel like they have the flu going into and out of Induction, so you don't want to slip on and off the program. Also, it will delay your progress toward ongoing weight loss. Words of wisdom ...lol... if something in the book is unclear (can I drink caffeine? what if I drink wine? can I avoid veggies? do I have to exercise?), read the 'sticky' postings in the forums under Induction, and/or start a new of a question and several people will give you the answer.
Here's to a Clean Induction and Best Wishes for a Great Wedding!
