  • New to Board, not diet

    Hello,
My name is D'Ann and I was on Atkins about 4 years ago and lost weight and felt good. I slowly went back to my old habits and my addiction to sugar and carbs. I have five children and kept their food different from mine, so our home had tempting sweets and foods that I finaly gave into.
Now, my house is cleared of tempting foods and the only thing that I kept for the kids is cereal and milk. They don't even seem to mind. My husband and I started induction last Wed. and he has lost 7#s and I have lost 4. We are 53 and 51 and know that we must do this for life. The older we get the harder it is. I didn't use the board last time and hope that it will be a tool of encouragement to us.
My hardest battle is not to get bored with meals. I will appreciate any help along those lines.
    Thanks,
    D'Ann

Re: New to Board, not diet

OH, I must say hello. I am also from E. Texas! I am just a few years behind you. I also did Atkins successfully 4 years ago but lost my way... it is the donut shop's fault, I swear!

Here is my tip about meal boredom. Don't think of meals as needing to be all that interesting! Think about how being lighter and more energetic makes your life more interesting! Now granted, we are all different and what works for me might not work for you. But I have a few 'core' meals that I rotate. That takes a lot of guesswork out of shopping as my mainstays are pretty much always in my fridge. I bake up chicken pieces ahead of time to make life even easier. I like simple things like a hamburger patty with Montreal spicy seasoning with a salad or turnip greens.

I do have to cook seperately for myself and family.. husband is a skinny and does not need to lowcarb! I just realized you might have to think about 'more interesting' since you are feeding hubby Atkins-style too. How much does he care about what is on the plate?

I don't give my hometown out online, but I work in Longview TX. How much rain did you get? We sure could have used more, but grateful for what we got!

Hi there and welcome to you and your husband both! Glad you found us here at ADBB... I hope we'll be able to help you keep to your resolve in making this a real lifestyle change.

If you fear boredom of foods then I'd advise you make the move to the OWL (ongoing weight loss) phase of Atkins soon after your two week induction. The extra food choices will be very welcome and you'll still get to lose weight. Some people lose even faster in OWL... especially on the first few rungs.

Post lots, use the board for all it offers, make friends... it all helps!

        Happy Atkineering!

Thank you so much for the encouraging replies. As I was cooking dinner tonight I was amazed that I wasn' tired. I really had a boost of energy.
I like the ideas about main staple meals and OWL. So, far no one is complaining about the meals.
Momtomany1, we didn't get very much rain. We live out in the country and our fields are very dry. I was really hoping for more rain. We live 40 minutes outside of Huntsville in Trinity county.
Again, thank you for making me feel welcome. I hope to use the boards this time around. I know there is alot of wisdom here
