  • hello! I'm new!

    Hi all!
My husband and I are going to be starting Atkins on August 1st. Very excited but full of questions so I'm sure I'll be back here alot for answers and support. I am in a book swap community so I have the Atkins For Life book on its way to me right now...I don't think it's the one you keep referring to (NDR 2002), but it should be good, yes?

My main concern is knowing WHEN to move from Induction to OWL...for each of us. My husband has more to lose than I do but I have a feeling he'll lose faster than I will...just a feeling. I'm SUPER positive about the program though.

I"m a little chagrined to give up my Crystal Light...0 carbs but I saw it had Aspartame in it and I think that's a no-no.

ok, pictures later but my here's my rundown.

I think my metabolism is pretty screwed up due to heaps of yo-yo dieting and not eating over the years. I'm a former bulimic (about 20 years ago), and there was some drug use in my past that caused me to not eat for days at a time so I worry that my metabolism is permanently damaged. I hope not, and right now, I am thinking POSITIVELY! That was so long ago and I'm a better person now!!!

I have already started to exercise...I swim about 15 laps in our pool and we have a treadmill for when the weather changes. I have some free weights that I don't LOVE but I'm willing to do lots of lifestyle changes once the weight starts coming off...it won't be as difficult then, right? RIGHT!

SOoooo, there I am, in a nutshell!

    Re: hello! I'm new!

    Hi Kell!
Welcome, you have definitely come to the right place. Atkins for Life is some good reading for a little bit after, your main focus should be the DANDR 2002 (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution), there is so much valuable information in that back that will really help you adjust to this way of living in the most beneficial way.
Other than that, everyone here is great and unbelievably supportive, so if you ever have any questions or just wanna talk, this is definitely the place to be.
Congratulations to you and hubby and I know you guys will both meet success in the near future!

Hi rhiannonwins, welcome to the board. The 2002 edition is the last official writing of Dr. Atkins. If at all possible, retrieve that version or you won't be up to date. This site will help you enormously. Use it like you do the pool and you will have much sucess It is awsome your husband is changing his way of eating as well. Wish you two much success.

        Re: hello! I'm new!

Thanks for the welcome and the advise. I still had some credits in my bookswap club so I ordered the NDR 2002 as well. I'll have a couple of Atkins books at my fingertips to consult so that's a plus, huh?

Yes, I am definitely happy that my hubby is doing this with me as I think it'd be really difficult to do it without him. Trying to cook "normal" and eat the Atkins way would be very hard. I have a 10 year old daughter and while she will have to get used to less carbs, I'll still serve her some pasta, rice and things like that because she is not a big meat eater at all and even pickier when it comes to leafy greens. But she will be learning to eat healthier through all this, you can bet on that! I don't want her battling weight her whole life and I know she doesn't either. I already warned her the days of us buying bags of Dove chocolates for "sweeties" at night are over. She didn't like that idea much. But it explains why she's always hungry...us too!
