  • Newbie from the UK!

Hi everyone - most of you seem to live in the States, so I hope you don't mind someone from across the water joining your Board?

I'm on Day 2 and struggling already! I don't have lots to lose (fortunately) - I lost 3 stone two years ago on WW but over the past 6 months a few pounds have crept on that I just can't seem to shift (mainly due to lack of willpower). Anyway, I thought I'd try and go low carb for the Induction phase at least and see how it goes.

    Does it really work???????

By way of introduction, my real name is Pamela and I live in Gloucestershire. I'm 37, no kids, and work in Marketing for one of the big banks over here. I'd love to hear from anyone who can offer advice or just wants to say hi Is there anyone else here from the UK?

    Bye for now

    Pamela

    Welcome to Pamela!
I think the "does it really work" question can easily be answered with a short sojourn into the "Before and After" pictures gallery or the "Atkins Low Carb Success Stories" board

We have many UK members and I'm sure some of them will stop in and welcome you as well.

I think the best piece of advice anyone can give a person just starting out is to get a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 Edition, if you don't already have one, and read it cover to cover. That is the first and major key to long last success on this way of eating.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey and if you need anything, please feel free to give a shout!

Hi - tell me about it! It's teatime on Day 3 and I'm hanging in there...just. I'm determined to stick it for at least the induction stage. I weighed myself today and have lost 3lbs but I realise that's probably water etc. Still, it was enough to keep me motivated!

How long have you been doing it? How much have you got to go?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "stone?" When you say you lost a stone?? I have lost 5 pounds in three days and am very excited! I'm almost done with day 4 of induction, and the cravings have subsided. I'm very content and satisfied with the food. Good luck to you!

              Re: Newbie from the UK!

Hi Shelz - I know Bolton quite well...and LOVE manchester I was a huge Take that fan in my youth and we used to go and hang out there quite a bit. How's today gone? I'm actually a couple of days ahead of you I think as I'd posted this thread a day or two before you replied to it. I'm just nearing the end of Day 4 - so far so good! Not sure if I'm losing but I feel a bit thinner so that's one thing.

Shelley - a 'stone' is a measure of weight over here when measuring a person's weight. There are 14 pounds in a stone. So if I say I've lost 3 stone, that's 42 pounds. I'm not sure why you don't have 'stones' in the States! Over here we would say our weight in stones and pounds - e.g. 10 stone 3 pounds...but I guess you'd say that as just 143 pounds?

haha there must be lots of differences between the UK and the States

                Re: Newbie from the UK!

Today's been good. My fourth day as well. Was up about 1/2 pound this morning and feeling a bit puffy but not discouraged. I can't seem to stop myself from getting on the scales every morning. I know it's not good, but can't help it!!

                  Hi Pamela, and welcome.

I'm in the UK as well - in Norfolk. As to does it really work? Well it's certainly working for me. I have, (no - that should be 'had') 8 stone plus to lose and I'm almost a quarter of the way there. Good Luck and stick with it.

                    Re: Newbie from the UK!

hey Pat, that's fantastic progress! Well I weighed myself again this morning on my Wii Fit and I've lost another 2lbs - that's 5 in 5 days. But I realise that probably around 3 of those were fluid? Having said that, I've always been a big water drinker - I drink 2 litres a day whether I'm on a diet or not. so in that case, maybe I won't have had so much fluid to lose?

Whatever, I still feel good! My clothes are definitely feeling looser. Shelley - I'm sure you'll see some loss soon - I've read quite a bit about the fact that some people don't see much loss and then *bam* they weigh themselves and have dropped 5 pounds!

Pat - I know Norfolk quite well!! I used to live outside Norwich in a village called Taverham - do you know it?

Have a good day everyone - I'm off to make brekky now...sausage, bacon and scrambled egg - yum!!!

Welcome from Wiltshire (Even if Somerset is only three miles down the road.)
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                      he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Well done with your progress so far.

Oh I was quite young when I lived there - I was there between the ages of around 6 and 10 (1977-1981).

How's the diet going? Have you got any tips?!?!
