  • A kinda slow start

Howdy all, I've been at this for almost 4 weeks & lost 10lbs so far. This week there was no progress but I'm committed to losing 40lb and getting down to my goal weight of 220. Once there I might re-evaluate and go another 10lb but that's it. I'm doing this with my GF Happy Cat and we cook together and it hasn't been too much of a chore. I just have to concentrate on drinking enough water every day and consuming enough calories to make this work.

Are you losing inches? A lot of times there won't be much poundage lost, but instead your measurements will be melting away. And yep, water is a big key here. When I did Atkins before, I realized that whenever I hit a plateau (but knew I was doing everything right), if I increased my water intake, boom, it would break the plateau and I'd start losing again every time.

Oh yeah, the only other thing that slowed me or gave me a hard plateau was when I slacked off on my exercise.

I have noticed pants are fitting a little better, but how can you lose inches without a corresponding loss in pounds? I'll try drinking more, and working in a little cardio with the weights.

I totally don't know but it sure is true. A counsellor told me once (many years ago when I did nutrisystems) that it's because when the body loses a bunch of weight, it occasionally takes a break to readjust itself before losing more.

She also told me that muscle weighs more than fat, so as I was working out and replacing fat with increased muscle mass, my body was getting smaller even though it might not show any weight loss on the scales.

            As I understand the program, it's 64oz minimum, 128oz maximum per day. That's 2 quarts (8 8oz cups) to 1 gallon (16 8oz cups).

Sending you good vibes on breaking your stall. Hang in there.

I think its the fat re-arranging itself.. But I wonder the same thing!!!

Tactical Cat (aka my very handsome boyfriend) - I was given the advice by a forum member that to figure out the amount of water to consume - multiply your body weight by 0.5, and that is the number of ounces that you should drink.

I am going to try it.

Oh, and if you are looking for me - I'll probably be in our, um, powderoom.

Oh man, that's a lotta water... I've (we've) been at this for a month and I've only lost 10lb. I was down 13 but regressed a tad. I wonder if I'm not getting enough calories (slowing down the metabolism)? I usually drink 2 16oz bottles of Nestle flavored water at work and have another at home - I guess that's not enough?
I haven't been doing any cardio, just weight training usually twice a week. I'm a fairly muscular guy but all my extra weight is on my abdomen & flanks. I'd like to lost anothr 30lb but I'm not sure if I have to modify my approach.

                      Re: A kinda slow start

think of it this way -

                      1 lb fat = a softball
                      1 lb muscle = a golf ball

therefore, 200 lbs of muscle can look much smaller than 200 lbs of fat.. but you weigh the same ! go figure...

as for water.... dont worry about drinking too much water, human bodies can process 32 oz of water AN HOUR... 16 waking hours per day.. you do the math, whoa !
i have heard to drink half your body weight in ounces.... 200 lb person should drink 100 oz of water PER DAY

hope that helps... oh, and .. COME HERE OFTEN, READ EVERYTHING, ASK QUESTIONS.. you will find amazing support and encouragement
