  • New to Atkins

Hi all. My name is Donna. I am a mother of four (all c-sections so I have the dunlap disease!). I am tired of being over weight! I am embarassed for my family to admit that I am their wife or mother. My husband will retire from the military (in fact tomorrow is his last work day) and his retirement "ceremony" will be in October I believe. I am dreading it so much! I have even told him that I do not and will not go on that stage to pin on his retirement pin. Of course it is because I am embarassed about my size but he thinks it's because I am shy. I really just want to feel like people aren't gonna say "poor Mark stuck with that for a wife".
I have been yo-yo dieting all my life (40 yrs old now) and I am so sick of it. I am totally addicted to cereal! I could eat it for every meal and every snack! So that is going to be my biggest hurdle. BUT I am determined to succeed. I have decided that by telling my whole family that I am going to do this that I have to stick with it or admit failure (which I hate to do!). So I figured that by telling this group and having the support of others like me that need to change for life and will be there for one another, then I can do it.
I went shopping today and found a few things that I am going to try. And I am keeping a journal to help me through. I also do the 10,000 steps on the treadmill daily. OUCH!

So today is my starting date (8-27-0. The beginning of me not being a cereal killer!!!!!!!!!

    Wish me luck!

    Re: New to Atkins

Hello there Donna and welcome! Nice to have you here with us.

You seem like you're in the absolute right frame of mind and very determined. Yay! With that attitude you'll make goal for sure. Kudos to you for telling your family in order to gain incentive. Post lots here and keep up that incentive/enthusiasm.

Very often the foods we're "addicted to" are the very ones that cause us problems and that we're sensitive to. If you find yourself craving, have a high fat snack. It'll help. It pays to always have something on hand, for those sudden pangs!

Keep us posted as to your progress. We're all in this together!
