  • Newbie with question on veggies splenda

Okay, I am really trying to count these carbs and I have a question. I know we are suppose to eat veggies but so many have carbs, carbs, carbs! I felt guilty last night eating a few small slices of cucumber. I am of course still in the induction so all this is new to me. I LOVE veggies way more than meat.

My favorite drink in the world is coffee with a close second being caffeine free cola. I bought the diet rite and it says no carbs, no calories, no caffeine. So why do I have to limit that??
I am still getting at least 64 ounces of water. But I really miss having a pot of coffee and the one or two cups is hard! LOL

Oh, and yes, I am in the bathroom peeing all the time!!!

Veggies don't make you fat. Don't worry about them. Coffee and splenda - now those may be trouble items
You can have 20 carbs on induction. And you could net carbs - so that means fiber does not count. With that in mind there is room to eat a fair bit of veggies in induction.
We are limited in sweeteners. Three per day. Even artificial sugars can lead to appetite stimulation so be aware. (And so does caffeine in some people and caffeine can lead to rising blood sugar levels - which we try to avoid - so work on keeping it down)
    Have you tried decaf?

      Liv,
I am decaf all the way! I have a problem with heart palpataions and caffeine sends my heart into a tizzy.
I thought that 20 carbs in inductions includes the veggies we eat. So I have been eating like one or two lettuce leaves. Or 1 cup of broccoli/cauliflower together.
I guess my biggest thing is if Splenda doesn't have carbs (less than 1g)then why can't I have all the coffee or green tea (decaf of course) I want as long as I only use Splenda?

Do you have a copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution? In the back of the book is a carbohydrate gram counter which is a big help. You mentioned cucumbers in your post..1/2 of a small cucumber has 1.8 net carbs. Here are a few more veggies...

1/2 cup broccoli has 1.7 net carbs
6 asparagus spears has 2.4 net carbs
1/2 cup eggplant has 2 net carbs
1 cup mixed greens has 0.4 net carbs
1/2 cup red peppers has 3.3 net carbs
1 cup raw spinach has 0.2 net carbs

Remember to eat off the allowed veggie list...here is a link. If you don't have the book pick one up~~it's very helpful!

          OzLover,
I don't own a copy of the book but just today my daughter picked me one up from the library.
Tonight I had 3 leaves of lettuce and 1 cup of broccoli and cauliflower stirfried with butter and a tiny bit of red and yellow peppers (not even a whole serving together on those). I also had tuna with boiled egg and 1 tbsp of mayo. So I am figuring I had about 8 carbs for the whole dinner.
I hope I'm doing this right.
I try not to eat anything after 8pm. "Eat after 8, gain weight." That's what my sister says, anyway. But if I am a bit hungry I get a 0 carb snack.
Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate the help!
