  • glad to have found this forum

    Hello All,
My name is Tana and I have been doing Atkins Induction for one week. So far so good. I haven't been on the scales yet, but I am feeling better and my clothes are fitting better as well.

    A little about me....
I am 52 years old and come originally from Austin, Texas. I have been living the last 11 years in Germany - near Frankfurt. I have 4 kids and 2 grandkids all of which ( except for youngest son Garry (15) ) are still in Texas. I know that I may not have all the resources/products available to me here, but I am thinking positive that this will work and I will get this extra weight I have been carrying around with me for way too long. I have two bad knees, in fact they will both have to be eventually replaced. The doctors here in Germany say that I am too young yet for the replacements. At my age, to be considered too young for something is actually a compliment.

I am looking forward to being active in the forum, trading info and support and of course getting to know new people in the same situation as me.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

    Tana

    Welcome,

We are all here for the same thing. I am on my 3rd week of induction. I am a 55 yr old. I live in a small southern IL town the closest big city is 17,000 people. I have 2 of my grandchildren in NC; 12hours away. Don't get to see them a lot, but not as far as you have to go! Bless you for starting Akins. It is a great WOE and a perfect way to get rid of those pounds. There are lots of people on the ADBB from other countries. You'll fit right in this a great site with lots of wonderful people.

    Have a great induction,
    KC

Re: glad to have found this forum

Hi Tana -- greetings from Austin! Just got in from my daily walk and it's hot here today, lol. If you've been gone 11 years, my-my, you wouldn't recognize the place with all the expansion, building, new airport, and new giant roadways all around. Fro instance, you can get from Oak Hill to Georgetown all on multi-lane super-highway!! It sure isn't the sleepy laid-back hippy town you left (except in spots).

Great to see you here. You can do it, just keep on keepin on. Don't know what you might be missing to do this in Germany (meat, veggies, creme, butter, oil, etc, and lots of water). But if you do run into a brick wall of something you can't find, just post here and see if any of us can help.

Oh, there's a section in these forums about how to post that ticker in your signature. Here it is http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-question.html

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome - thanks GBM for the help with the ticker.....hope it works now. How do you get the weight/numbers to show?
I know that Austin is changing like crazy. It is weird every time I come home to visit. I try to get home at least once a year and every time it just amazes me how the place changes. The last time I was there it was the big Toll Road thing....wonderful! My daughter lives in Georgetown and has to pick me up from the airport - which until last year was a major time consuming drive.....now it is just a quick spin and you are there.
When I was talking about stuff not being here, I meant like Atkins products, snacks, etc. None of that has made it here yet as far as I know.

Thanks again for all the kind words..

Re: glad to have found this forum

Wow, you're right, I just googled for Atkins products in Germany and it doesn't look like they're available there locally. Looks like you might be able to get some stuff on-line, but I read it's expensive. Sorry bout that.

Ah, so you do get back to Austin, great. Yep, yep, some of the big roads are toll-roads which gosh, has really created a political stir in these here parts, lol.

Well, to get the weight numbers in your signature here, just go to your signature and type them in by hand. At least, that's how I do it.

Keep up the great work. Maybe next time you're in Austin we could meet up for a coffee.

Re: glad to have found this forum

              Hey Tana,

my life is pretty much the other way round... I am from Germany, living in Texas (Dallas area) right now and I got started with Atkins 8 weeks ago.

Since I am getting ready to go back to Germany in just a couple weeks I did some research online and what I found out isn't really good news (
German research is frequently mentionned in the Atkins book I have but the diet is not as popular over there as it is in the States and the market of low carb products is... let's say improvable (does that word even exist???).

I was somehow still hoping to find LC cereal, LC cereal bars, LC yoghurt, LC pudding, Jell-O, pork skins -especially the LC ice cream; but Germans don't even know Splenda ... *kissing the LC dream good-bye*
You might have an easier time doing it because you are not getting used to having all those things - like I already did. Maybe you can give me a couple tips what you are eating as a snack when Texans just grab string cheese!?

I respect you for the great job you are doing and hope you can keep the great work you have been doing up...

              Have a good one ;o)
