  • Newbie from Dallas,Texas

    Hi All,
I just started the atkins diet today and have been feeling extremely tired. Is this common when we start this diet. Are there any tips from the people already following this diet.
I love sweets and its being hard for me to stay away from them.....

I think everyone feels tired the first couple of days. I went through a pretty bad caffine/sugar withdrawl a couple days in but then one morning i woke up feeling great. You will most likely still crave sweets the first couple of days, maybe longer. The good news is that if you do a clean induction (no cheating) then it gets easier to pass up the foods that you used to crave the most. I just restarted on july 31st and i was able to go to the fair 2 days ago and not cheat. It wasn't easy but I managed to keep my eye on my goal. I'm am still shocked i could walk past the mini donut stands and not give in. Now instead of feeling guilty i am proud of myself. If you stay faithful to the diet it will get easier to pass up the sweets.
Repeat these things to yourself in times of temptation...
(insert tempting treat) will still be here a year from now.
Is it really worth setting myself back a week on my weightloss?
Am i going to feel guilty if i eat this?
Is eating (insert tempting treat here) worth the low i am going to feel afterwards.

    Hope that helps some.

    Good Luck on your journey!!!

Feeling tired and out of sorts is normal. I started induction a week ago, and the first couple of days I felt weak, and even a bit lightheaded. That went away after two days though. After going through those couple of days, I got this surge of energy, so hang tough....so will you!

        Hello from Waco!!

HEy neighbor! YES....those first 48 hours are heinous! I'm a 33 y.o. female that is relatively healthy...I did not think switching into ketosis would be a problem for me. It was awful. Bone crushing exhaustion, headaches, muscle aches, cranky, etc. I even called my doc and he explained what was going on medically. Sure enough, just like he and everyone else said, around day 3 I got a SURGE of energy and my metabolism just went into overdrive. It's been great ever since. Just embrace the process your body is going through....it means its working. Listen to your body and just rest and drink LOTS of water. When you have your energy...use it for exercise. Good luck!

          Welcome banda!
What they said is true so you will be feeling better very soon.
When you get into the exercise, you might again feel tired at first as this is another adjustment - that is well worth going through.

First 2 days are the hardest, but if you could pass through it then the greater probability that you could stick in this WOL. Be tough and belive in yourself!
