  • Hi everyone

My name is Tina and I am married with three teenage daughters. They are 17, almost 15 and almost 14.

I have been signed up to this site for a few days and have been reading all the posts trying to learn all I can before I start this program. I am also reading the book and plan on starting Sunday if all goes good. I just wanted to get all the info I could before hand and make sure I had all of the right foods in the house.

I have to be honest and say I am very scared to do this. It almost just seems to good to be true kind of thing. I used to weigh 258 lbs and I joined Weight Watchers and got down to 145, so I lost 113 lbs and kept it off for about two years. I got married three years ago and have gained about 40 lbs of it back. I am right now trying to work WW with all I have and guess what... it is NOT working no matter how hard I try. By reading the book I am starting to see why I should be trying Adkins instead. Although "low fat" & "low calorie" has been pounded in and has really worked for me in the past. I am having such a hard time getting over that "idea".

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts and seeing all the pictures. You seem to have a really supportive group here.
I really want to get a handle on the weight thing before it gets even harder. I am sure I will be posting a ton of questions soon.
Have a great day and thanks for having me
    Tina

    Re: Hi everyone

Welcome! I can relate. I have lost weight using a low fat diet as well. It is simple: burn more calories than you consume and you lose weight. However, you don't really change what your eating. You simply eat less of it. Sugar (complex or simple) is still a staple of your diet. So even though you loose weight, the reason you gained it in the first place is always there. So just as you did, I gained it back. Atkins removes the temptation. Atkins attempts to eliminate as much junk carbs from your diet as possible. Granted you can never go back to eating as you did, but that is the point. This diet not only changes how you eat but how your body metabolizes fat, which is a huge advantage when loosing weight. So welcome aboard and realize that you can never look back, and that's a good thing!

      Re: Hi everyone

yeah and I forgot to mention, I am figuring out that I am a carb junkie!!
for a snack or with my sandwich at lunch I will eat fat free potato chips.. just one once of those has more carbs then what I should eat in a day on this plan.
I am 99% sure I am going for this on Sunday, it just amazes me that you can eat so much fat!! I am so scared of gaining anymore of my weight back and like I said, I need to get a hold on it before its worse then it was to begin with. Looking forward to all you guys input and help!!

        Re: Hi everyone

Yes you can eat a lot of fat, becasue that is what your body uses for fuel. So it is not being stored. Believe me, I've been eating beef, pork and cheese like it has been going out of style. And I have already lost 3 lbs! I've been on it for 5 days! If you do it right, you have NOTHING to worry about!

Use all the success stories on the board as inspiration. If they can do it so can we!

              Re: Hi everyone

I can relate, I lost a bunch of weight when I was pregnant with my second child while going through a divorce(LONG STORY). Then I met my wonderful hubby- gained that love weight, got remarried then got pregnant- talk about wow. I had our little boy in Dec, and so far I am roughly 40 pounds from my goal. I quit smoking too, just recently. I just want to feel better and look better. I want more energy. This WOL definately helps. Goodluck!!
