  • Hello and Help

    Hello-
I am new to the adkins diet. I have completed the two week induction phase, and have lost NO weight!!! I think I am doing everything right, as I followed what the book said.

I was/am on my period during this time. Could this have affected my results?

I also, will admit, I did not drink all that water. I did however switch to drinking only drinks with Spledna in it.

My carbs, (20 or less) were in the form of coffee creamer, broccoli, and splenda.

I am feeling frustrated. However, overall I am feeling better, but need to loose weight for my overall health.

I weight around 230 and am about 5'6.

Any Tips or advise would be appreciated.

    Izza

    Re: Hello and Help

You're period can definetly affect your weight loss.

You've got to drink the water, it really helps.

Also could you post a typical days menu?

Good luck, I hope you find the answer!!

      Re: Hello and Help

You didnt mention the lack of water in the other post so i will reply about that here.

The water is very important, without it your body cant flush out the fat and you can also become constipated.

Try cutting out the drinks with splenda and switch to water for a couple days. Just think of it this way..

Which would you rather lose weight or enjoy your sweetened drinks? Trust me it gets easier once you get used to drinking more water.

        Re: Hello and Help

        Hi Izza,

There's a nifty freeware site called 'fitday' where you can log the amounts of any food (and there's a place for custom foods as well, handy for usual brands, and recipes) and it's very helpful to see exactly what you are getting. Besides the water, it's important to have about a 65%fat, 30%protein, and 5% net carb. It's got a terrific little pie chart to show you the percentages. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it going, it's pretty painless, lol.

You probably know we're shooting for 13-15 net carbs in veggies per day, which gets hard for me, with my great love of sour cream and cheese, lol. I bought a digital scale and started weighing and measuring. For my first 10 days of induction, I was doing Atkins from memory, (read the book a few years ago, didn't do Atkins then) and forgot that that I couldn't eats nuts... then it was another couple weeks before before I got a scale, so until I did, I was just guessing. Some of my gueeses/estimates turned out to be spot on, and other were way off. To get the body into ketosis, I think it's pretty important to keep your carb/fat/protein ratio up there, and get enough calories too. I've read that we need about our body weight X 10 in calories. Which just sounds crazy doesn't it?

And yeah.. I also really think the diet sodas keep us craving sweet taste, and the CARBonation affects our optimum metabolization too. SOooo I just have one maybe every few days... and as time goes on, it just doesn't taste that good to me anymore. This is coming from a Pepsi addict, who switched to diet sodas, and then became a sweet bubbles addict. And I mean, I rarely drank water; just soda.

Just think of the water as rinsing out the fat and toxins. Soda and tea just aren't the same for the job. If I start early and have a big glass before breakfast, that seems to help get the water intake rolling.

PS. You may find, if you kick up the water and fat, that once your 't.o.m.' is over, you dumped some real weight too. I would give induction another go, if I were you, and try the food-weighing, and ditch the soda. I have 103 pounds to lose still, so I'm doing an extended induction... and I'm finding it pretty ok. Hang in there, this does work!
