  • 3rd times a charm

Hey everyone, My name is Kathy and this is the third time I have been on atkins since 2004. The first time I ended up pregnant (go figure I had dropped 45 lbs and my hubby found me attractive again lol)and it was just so hard to stay on anything. The 2nd time was after the birth of my son. I stuck with it until I broke my ankle in 2 places on December 24, 2005. I was flat on my back for 3 weeks and had to rely on others to fix me meals. After I went off it the last time I just didn't think about how much weight I was gaining or how terrible I felt. I went through a bad period in my life after I started gaining the weight back and it made it that much easier to just eat what I wanted, it made me feel good on the inside but look really bad on the outside. At the end of June this year (200 I was in Idaho helping my mother move. She lived near my aunt and cousin (who is two years younger than me). Well, out of all 4 of us, I was the only one able to pack my mothers belongings up. They were so overweight and in terrible health (mainly because of being overweight) that they hardly helped at all. And ya know, I was about 90 lbs overweight myself and thought I do not want to live my life like they do. I have two small children that need their mom around a long time. So I decided after I got back home that the Monday after the 4th of July holiday weekend (because holidays are no time to change eating lifestyle, its just to hard) I would begin atkins again. I was lucky and found the 2002 version atkins book, I went on line and looked at atkins.com, I took the classes and have not looked back. I have dropped 35 lbs so far and am excited to stick with it this time.

I do have good days and bad days as far as having to convince myself that no I am not really hungry I just had a meal an hour ago.

I can tell a definite difference in how I feel and was actually able to fit into a pair of capris that I haven't worn in over a year. I also rarely nap on the weekends anymore. I used to sleep two or three hours every Saturday and Sunday no matter what. The only problem I have had is my calves ache alot, I have started taking potassium supplements along with my multi-vitamin and drinking 1/2 cup of diet tonic water with quinine in it. zero carbs. Some days it helps and some days it doesn't.

The hardest part for me has been even though I have more energy, my house is pretty darn clean (lol). I still haven't been able to get a exercise routine incorparated into my life. I tried walking but then a very busy schedule got in the way. So I really need to get started on that.

    Hi, Kathy

Although you are not new to Atkins, I hope that you will check out this "sticky" I put together: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html I'm sure that you know about a lot of this stuff already, but there's also some good links to popular places on the board, along with some other tidbits of information. Check it out, if you haven't already.

Yep, exercise... it's still something that I have to MAKE myself do. But when I finally get consistent with it, I have to admit that it does make me feel better. Just keep trying different things, until you find something you can manage. I do a lot of my exercising on the living room floor, with DVD's. I had to go through a few of them before I finally found something I liked, but they sure have been handy.

Have you checked out the STAC (Second Time Around Club) forum yet? Lots of great support there.

    Good luck!

Hi Kathy. Welcome and good luck. You seem to have the right attitude and plenty of motivation. Just keep those youngsters in mind and all the good you will be doing them as they watch you take charge of your life and weight. They will benefit from healthier eating too and will be grateful for having you more present in their lives because you have more energy to play with them. They are the greatest motivators of all!

Hi Kathy, I'm a third time arounder too. Obviously we both know it is what is best for us, that it works and it feels good or else we wouldn't keep coming back. Just keep telling yourself that every day, and if you happen to slip just get right back on plan, that has been my problem in the past, I've let a minor slip spiral me out of control. This time, first I don't plan to slip, but if I do, I'm going to be right back on the next piece of food that goes in my mouth. Welcome back!
