  • A New Me:)

    Hi all!
I am currently a freshman in college and am a division 1 field hockey player. You would assume I would be in the best shape I could possibly be in but unfortunately I am not. I have about 30 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight. I used to weight less than I do now but my whole life I have been the cubby one and I need to fix it hopefully before I turn 20 (I am 19 now and have about 7 months till my birthday!) I have tried soo many diets in my lifetime but the last time I feel I actual lost weight was when I did the Atkins diet. It is just very hard for me to stay motivated and not crash. I would really love all the motivation and support I can get. I am sure everyone feels the same way I do about losing weight in this diet so I am here to hopefully motivate and support you too!

I've found along my short Atkins journey that if I want support I can either buy a new bra or head here to the message boards. The latter is much more convenient and rewarding. I'm sure you'll find the same. When you see an interesting thread, speak up! You're family now, after all.

I know school's only been in session a short time now, but how is it going so far? Any sense of what you'd like to study after you get gen eds out of the way?

      Re: A New Me

Welcome aboard!! Hopefully you don't get bored with the diet and can stick with it this time. Well I'm only at one week today but I'm staying hopeful! I have done Atkins in the past but just thought of it as a quick fix and would lose 15-20 pounds in a month and then go back to my regular way of eating and watch the pounds pile back on. This time I've come to realize that I just can't eat like that and that if I'm going to eat junk food it's going to be a treat and maybe a once a month thing that I pig out because it's just not worth being unhappy. When did you start and what are your stats? I wish you the best of luck!! The most important thing is just making sure you're prepared food wise and that you always have the right food in stock

      24/MD/start date 9/20/08
      SW: 158
CW: ??? (I haven't weighed myself yet but have lost 2 1/4" around the waist)
GW: 135 (perhaps less but I'd be happy there)

        Re: A New Me

Hey guys thanks for your reply! School is pretty tough but going well, I am traveling a lot with my field hockey team and trying to juggle my new major which is exercise science (I absolutely lovvve it!). But I have been sticking to this diet for a week now and i weighed myself this morning and now change?! I am really kind of frustrated about this since I did all this work this week and seem to have gotten nothing out of it. I have been doing everything the book says and following the rules. My urin strip was even a dark purple so I don't know what to think?

I replied to your post in the 'Review My Menu' forum, but then read here about the "dark purple" strip... That's a sign that you don't drink enough water! If the ketostix is pink, even a light shade of pink, you are in ketosis. The darker color means you're dehydrated.

So drink more water, try to avoid diet soda, and be careful if you're drinking coffee... caffeine can cause dehydration.

I understand you didn't lose weight, but did you lose inches?

For clarification purposes - dark purple typically means you are in deep ketosis. You can however get a false positive deep purple if you are dehydrated or consumed alcohol.

              Indeed, thanks for clarifying that!

              Here's more about ketostix:
