  • Starting Atkins

Hello everybody, today is mu third day of induction, but a first day where I follow everything correctly, the last two days i had some unclarities, whcih i still have, but i play it safe- when in doubt do not eat it)
My name is Violeta, Im 26 , i would like to lose around 10 -12 pounds, but most of all i would like to start eating healthy and limit my carbs, because I have mild PCOS and insuline resistance. So for me the goal is to exercise and not eat any junk. I am a heavy carb eater - I love to eat carbs - i love fruits and pasta and do not like meat all that much, however i really do feel better without them. I feel very peaceful and not hungry today, even though yesterday and the day before I cheated with half a glass of milk and more salats and cheese than allowed. So i do not count the previous days and willl start counting today as my day one. I also started to exercise, and hope to do it more regularly.
I want to ask the following questions
    1. can u do sports during induction?
    2. atkins says 2-3 cups of salats, but when i sum up , they are not 15 grams of carbs . can i eat more ? or should i stick to 3 cups?
    3. cheese - some sorts of cheese contain only 0.1 grams of carbs especially lactose free cheese
how come only 3-4 oz are allowed?
    4. I feel quite weak today, how and when will i start to feel better?

Thank you very much for your attention

Yet another question - as far as i read tofu is counted as cheese for the first phase, not as meat?

      Re: Starting Atkins

First of all you should start feeling better in a couple of days. It took me about 4 days to get that energy back and funky feeling to leave.
Add variety to your salads. It will add a bit more carbs but also fiber. You can subtract the fiber from your total carbs and those is your NET carbs. Those are the ones that count. You can go to fitday.com and open an account for free. There you can enter your food and their amounts and it will tally this for you. On the left side of the screen you can tailor it to count your fiber. Then just do the subtraction. The totals are listed down below your food lists beside the little pie chart.

Yes, you can do sports during induction. But it is VERY important to drink lots and lots of water. NO LESS than 64 ounces.

Cheese does say on most labels that it is less than 1 g of carbs but you have to be careful. I always count one carb per ounce. That way I am sure. Or I let fitday do it for me. Also, cheese can be a real staller. I think that is the main reason for the limits on it.

I am not sure about the tofu as I have never eaten it. One of the seasoned Atkineers will be able to answer that better. Or at the top of the page you can click on search and type in tofu. It might have already been addressed in another posting.

Hope I helped a bit. And welcome to the boards!!!!

        Hi Violetka
Thanks for joining the water challenge and welcome to ADBB.
Hope things go well for you. Tofu does not count as cheese. Just watch the carb count on the tofu.

            Re: Starting Atkins

You can - but tofu is not very fatty so make sure you add fats to your diet if you don't eat meat. On Atkins most of our calories should come from fat (about 65% of them)
