I just found this board today but this is actually my second time on the Atkins diet. I'm subject to hypoglycemia and about 6 or 7 years ago after ignoring the low carb diet the doctor put me I realized I needed to go back on it. I actually bought the Atkins book not for the diet but for the recipes. My imagination had run out of ways to fix a large slab of meat and two small veg. I tried some of the recipes and ended up reading the book.
And somewhat to my surprise, I found myself losing weight also. . .which I needed to do anyway. And I did very well: 40 lbs in about 9 months.
And then came Christmas. Well, you can't have Christmas without mashed potatoes, candied yams, and cranberry sauce. And pie! So, says I to myself, I'll have my Christmas and then go back on the diet on New Years. But Christmas doesn't really end on New Years; it ends on Twelfth Night - January 6th. So the feast continued. And so far as my diet went, half a dozen years and 50 pounds later, it was still Christmas.
Until last Wednesday. I once again realized that yet another new wardrobe was needed in (you're way ahead of my on this one, aren't you?) the next largest size.
In a nutshell, a combination of being really cheap and really angry with myself got me to dig out my copy of Dr Atkins book and started induction once again. This is being written in the evening of day 9 and so far I'm down 5 lbs and a couple of inches from the "high" part of my stomach. From the actual waist, only a bit less than an inch. Only a first step, but for a change I'm at least pointed in the right direction.
The immediate goal is to figure out how the avatars and the other personalization features of this site work. The long term goal is to lose approximately 75 lbs. It's only an approximate goal, because the real goal is to fit (comfortably!) into a very small garment I own that I haven't been able to wear in years. I think I could last wear it 75 lbs ago. But I may have guessed wrong. So maybe 70 lbs or maybe 80 or. . . whatever it takes.
