  • Realistic?

Howdy, I'm Steph and I'm new to the board and Atkins. I currently have the 2002 Atkins book and two George Stella low-carb cookbooks coming my way and I plan on starting to eat better by the end of the week, but I have a few quick questions before the books get here.

I'm 22 years old and female. I'm also Shorty McShort-Short. I come in at 5'0" and I've been poking at 140 pounds for about a month now and haven't been below 130 pounds in probably a year.

In high school, I hovered around 105 pounds. I graduated in 2004 and gradually started gaining weight with a big 20 pound increase in the last year and a half to two years.

I'm getting married mid-May next year and I want to lose weight (nay, I have to lose some weight, otherwise my dress won't sit right on me).

I don't want to get down to that 105 pounds or lower again because, honestly, I looked pretty sickly. My ultimate goal is to be around 110-115 pounds.

I would love to get to that weight before my wedding (so, lose 25-30 pounds in about 7 months, 5 months if you throw in alterations for my dress), but is that goal realistic with Atkins?

I'm honestly fine if I'm still losing at that point and well on my way to my goal weight, but it would be spectacular to meet the goal by then. I just don't want to push my body too hard and if it's not very realistic, I'd like to know beforehand so I can go slower.

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: Realistic?

I think that sounds doable. But it is not always easy to set time goals with Atkins. Our bodies seem to have a clock of their own. Are you exercising as well? Helps with toning. And we get smaller when we exercise (lose inches). And it helps keep our metabolism going. Keep it clean in induction and you should be well on your way.
    Congratulations on upcoming marriage.

      Congrats on the engagement!!

I think it's definitely possible especially if you are exercising. If you don't reach your goal by then don't get discouraged though, just keep at it!!

          Re: Realistic?

I think it's possible.. but I'm not very good at what weight = what size at what height...
I guess what I'm saying is, that if losing 30lbs is going to make you look *perfect* then it's harder to have happen than if it's going to make you look *good*. For example, the last 10 lbs for anybody to reach their "goal weight" could take a couple months, but people could think that they look like they should be at goal months before that. I hope that makes sense.

Either way, I recommend exercise because the results are amazing - weight training and aerobics... and I'm not talking about the "girly" weights either. That way, even if you weigh more, it could look like you weigh a lot less. Good Luck!

              Re: Realistic?

I think 25-30 lbs is deff do-able in 7 mos. As someone whose been to goal b4 I know those last 10 lbs are the worst, but its deff doable!

Best of luck to you & to a beautiful wedding!

                Re: Realistic?

Losing weight is hard, hard work. If you are committed and willing to do the work, then you can achieve your goals. You should enter some challenges on the board. They are very encouraging and motivating. I personally lost over 60 pounds in 10 months, but it was hard work! Commit to it, you are worth it!

                  Re: Realistic?

Thanks for all of the support and information, guys! I'm glad to know that it's not too terribly unrealistic of a goal. Even if I don't make it by then, I'll still stick with it until I do (it would just be beyond perfect if I could).

Thanks for the congrats! I'm so excited!
