  • Just turned 37 and starting over

    Hello,

I am 37 yrs old today. I have been low carbing for the last 15 yrs. Thats how I was able to keep my weight down as it was. After I met my husband I started gaining slowly as my diet changed. I am diabetic now after my last pregnancy but was borderline all my life. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I have PCOS on top of diabetes. I am 7months postpartum and breastfeeding. I am looking to loose this weight. I actually did very well on a diabetic diet while pregnant and only gained 20lbs. I lost all but 5 within 6weeks after the baby but have fallen off the wagon and gained most of it back. I will be starting on Wednesday as I will be going out to lunch for my birthday tomorrow. My husband is also starting with me. My goal will be to loose 50lbs or to be at 130.

I also have a friend who will be starting in Nov after she puts on this wedding for her daughter. She asked since she can not do artificial sweetners as she is allergic to them what can she use? Can she use honey or sugar and just count the carbs?

    Thanks for reading.

As for your friend~tell her that low carbers use Splenda;I'm not sure if she's tried that but even with that you wanna keep things in perspective. Some low-carbers don't use any artificial sweeteners, I guess it depends on how strict she wants to be and also how the sweeteners affect her. Honey and sugar are not very carb friendly and if she's staring induction than those two are off limits completely for the firs two weeks. Have her pick up a copy of the DANDR and read up on her options.
Now as for you...happy almost birthday to you! I'm a huge fan of people teaming up with family. You will find it's the perfect support system and it will make meal planning and grocery shopping so much easier when you eat the same thing. Make sure to keep each other accountable and exercise together as well. Atkins, as I'm sure you know, will help get that diabetes and PCOS in check so that's even more incentive for you. There are sections for breast feeding mothers, PCOS, and diabetics following Atkins so make sure to peek in there for added support. (in case you haven't already found them)
    Good luck to you!
