My Atkins lifestyle is pretty basic. I was like many others on here. I was overweight and on the verge of getting diabetes. All my life, I was overweight. My parents were stuck on the “eat fat, you become fat” mentality. Since I didn’t know any better, I fell into that trap. Now that I have gotten older (33 years old), I married a wonderful sweetheart who showed me the errors of my ways in the low fat diet. I’ve been on the Atkins rollercoaster too many times to count. But this time, it is sticking.
My current goal is to be about 220. I don’t know what that will be like. I haven’t weighted that much since I was 12. And even then, I was pretty stout. My last weighing came in at 300 even. My pant size has been up to 50” and I have made it down to about 41 (if that size existed).
I would like to share some of my lessons I picked up along the way that might help others.
1) If you fail, keep trying.
2) Work on your issues that you use food as a coping mechanism.
3) You have to exercise.
4) Look at a lot of recipes and try new things. I find that French cooking is very Atkins/Gluten-free friendly.
5) Most importantly, look out for diet saboteurs. They are everywhere. Family, friends, co-workers, strangers. Assume that everyone is going to mess you up until they proven to be supportive.
I look forward to seeing everyone reach their weight loss and health goals!
