  • Guess i'll start here...

I must first warn that I tend to babble, so excuse me if I do please.

I'm Lisa, 26yo married mom to 2 special needs kiddo's. Also a college student (taking internet classes since my son became disabled about 3 years ago). Just background.

I first started 1/1/2004 and did wonderfully until about July or August. Was feeling GREAT, lost about 94 lbs, regular monthly's for the first time in my life, no more frequent urination, or jittery feeling.

I gave in to my urge to have a carb filled dinner and that was the beginning of the end for me. I have gone back up to 205 and am feeling like crap most of the time.

I'm hoping that this time around with some support I can do it again and stick to my goal this time. My husband isn't very supportive, although he would like to think he is, of me doing this. He ALWAYS has sweets and carb filled foods in the house, for him as well as our daughter, can't avoid that but I didn't have much of a problem with that the last time around, hopefully I can do it again.

One helpful thing to me is that my son is on the Ketogenic diet (4:1 ratio and a bit more controlled than Atkins) for epilepsy (seizures) so I am VERY familiar with controlled portions and the big no no's. I have read some of Dr Atkin's book and will get another copy and finish it up asap.

It's nice to meet everyone, i've been browsing the posts and such for a while now, but have just now gotten up and posted myself. I thank all of you who have posted your pics as that has been a great inspiration. I will have to take some soon. I do have some to scan before and during from before. I'm still down about 70 lbs from where I started and really don't want to end up back there..

Thanks for letting me be part of this board, I hope to be of some help to others as well. My life these days seems to revolve around my child's medical issues and to be honest it would be a nice change to actually do something for me again... Hugs, Lisa

welcome to the board. wow 2 special needs kiddos you have your hands full.

REeading the book will help you alot as Atkins isn't as high fat (boy does that sound funny) as the Ketogenic epilepsy plan. Ours is 65% fats 30% proteins and about 5% proteins but you can be slightly off and still lose weight. The fats come down and the carbs go up as you move through the phases aby about 5% until you get to maintenance at around 50%

    Happy low carbing.
