  • Hey, New Here!!

    Hey everyone!

I'm new to this board and also to atkins. I started atkins yesterday(11-10-0 so I'm excited to see some results. I am not new to dieting though, I have been up and down for quite a while now. I am 24 and a stay at home momma to my 2 year old daughter. I'm looking to lose about 60lbs and then see where I am at that point. I am curious though about what kind of results people see and in what time frames? I also was wondering if most people are exercising with this diet or not? I know that exercise is very important to have a healthy lifestyle and lose weight but does anyone lose weight on atkins without it?

I look forward to reading all of your posts and chatting with some of you. If anyone has any tips or motivational secrets, I'd love to hear them, as motivation to stick with it can be hard for me. Take Care!

Hello, welcome, and good luck on your journey!

Everybody loses weight at different rates due to a lot of different factors. Myself, I've lost "only" 12 pounds... which means I've lost 30% of my goal! I lost 7 pounds in the first two weeks of induction, 3 pounds in two additional weeks of induction, and two pounds on OWL (I've not quite been on Atkins for two months total). I've also lost 3 inches on my thighs, two on my waist and one on my hips as of last week - and as of this week am down one pants size officially.

You really can't "do" Atkins without the exercise component - it's something key to the way of life. Are you concerned about making time for it in chasing around your two year old?

Tip1: thus far, for me, thinking of this as a permanent change rather than as a diet keeps me on track and motivated.

Tip2: Measure as well as weigh in, and make your goals less hard and fast than "x" pounds by "y" day. How about a dress or outfit that you work towards wearing in a "goal" size?

Tip3: Come to ADBB often - it's inspiring!

      Hi Shorty!

Welcome to the board! You have your hands full with a 2 year old at home, I know! From my own experience, I know how challenging it can sometimes be to cook for a little one & still stick to plan for your own self.

As for exercise - it definitely is a key component to rapid & sustained weight loss. This is my 3rd time getting back on track, and in the past I definitely noticed that when I was exercising the pounds dropped quicker and the pounds that I lost were skewed in that I lost fat & gained muscle, looking much better than if I had just lost fat pounds.

Today marks my 3rd week of getting back on plan. My first week I lost a whopping 11.3 pounds, the 2nd 1.6 pounds, and today for my 3rd week's progress I dropped 1.8 pounds.

The missing ingredient for me is exercise, and honestly I've done more "thinking" about it than climbing aboard the equipment or popping in the DVDs! But, frankly, I have not had ANY real desire to start with the exercise.

So yes, you can & will lose pounds without exercise, but if your goal is to be healthy then you need to incorporate that part of the plan too. (I wrote that for my benefit too!!)

Congratulations on getting started & I hope that you see some quick results to bolster you!
