  • Hello All from a newbie!

:wave Hello All! I am a new user (yay me!), 33 y.o. Female from Little Rhody (you know, the little spit of land hanging below Massachusetts!!). Started Atkins for the second time about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had tried this approach back in 2002 but found I missed the breads, pastas and such and went off the wagon! But here I am again and committed to the change. I am doing well, sticking (I think) to the program religiously. Well, I am having a bit of an issue cutting out my a.m. coffee. I've even tried to do the half decaf-half regular bit but no go. While my loss has slowed I don't think it's completely the caffeine. I am exercising regularly, and feel great, too! I have cut out all and any junk food pretty easily, but find that I miss fruit. But, I can hold out because I want to lose a bit more before my trip in 1 1/2 weeks!! My biggest question (and I have looked into each Atkin's book there is and cannot find a definitive answer) is this. Do the 20 carbs on the Induction pertain to all foods eaten or just to the vegetables? Do I have to count the carbs in my meat/fish and dairy products? Also, how many of you write your daily carb intake down? I did another weight loss approach (WW) for the past 1 1/2 years and lost (and kept off) 13 pounds. The one thing I found hard to stick to was writing things down. I am a working mother with a very active 7 year old (metabolism, interests, sports, etc!) and basically have what appears to be no time! I know the answer to that one, too, "Make the time for yourself, you're worth it"! Believe me I have been, but I know it should be a little more. I'll work on that Sorry to be so long winded but I am very excited to be on a board where I know I will get the support to help me along. I have taken a week or so to peruse this site and like what I see and "hear". I am happy tobe part of it now!! Thank you and I look forward to writing as often as I can.

Hi, welcome and glad that you found us.
fitday.com is a great place to keep a food diary. I think most of us use it. Also, there seems to be a time after Induction that folks' bodies just seem to lag. We don't lose and we don't gain, but then in about one or two weeks we get a visit from the WHOOSH fairy and drop pounds, (usually plural) Of course this statement doesn't refer to men who just drop pounds anytime)
In 2002 Dr A wrote a new book. Do you have it, its the one that we use here all the time and has some changes from the first book, its new and improved.

Check out the whole board as we have lots of stuff to see and do. Again welcome
    Lynne

      Welcome to the board!

I was also going to suggest using fitday.com It is so easy to use, it's free, and it keeps track of everything for you. Just need to remember to subtract your fiber to get your 20 net carbs.
And of course reading the 2002 version of DANDR is the best advice ever.
We count all foods, 20 net carbs daily on the first 2 weeks of Induction.
Visit ' Atkins 14 day Induction' thread. It is a wonderful resource for new Inductees.
And don't forget to measure yourself for those times when the scales aren't moving. You'll see how far you have come!
Most of all I wish you success! I'll look forward to reading your posts!!

      Hugs,Tammy
