  • So Excited To be Here :)

    Hi everybody,
Hope you are all feeling great and shedding the weight.
I'm female and from Australia, wishing to lose about 10kg (20+ pounds?). I just started my Induction phase today, and was needing some help.

    1. Does eating an "egg" refer to the whole egg, or just the egg white?
    2. How much salt are we allowed to have?

Thank you so much for your help, and hope you all (including myself) reach your goal weights.

    With love, miumiu.

    Welcome to the board!

    To answer your questions...

    1. Egg refers to the whole egg. Atkins is a high fat diet and there is quite a bit of fat in the yolk. Maybe you already know this, but you should aim for 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% protein during induction.

    2. There is no limit on salt. However, too much salt will make you retain water. How much is too much? Well, for me it's around 1500 mg. Others can eat more, others less. You'll have to see how much you can have.

Below are some links you might find useful. I also recommend you to read the book - DANDR 2002.

high fat??? I can't find any high fat in my house, it's all veggies. Should I be buying meats with fattier cuts? Eating more cheese? Adding more oil to my omletes?

Re: So Excited To be Here

Cheese is limited to 4 oz per day during induction and rung 1.

Any form of fat is fine. Most of the fat I eat comes from the olive oil I add to salads.

Fattier cuts are fine. Butter added on cauliflower is pretty good, so are veggies sauteed in butter. Avocados also have a high fat content.

            Thanks alot for the replys.

I'm okay not eating carbs, but I have a really big sweet tooth and think about sweet food all the time . Is there anything sweet that is also Induction friendly?

              Sweets aren't my weakness, but...

The best way to break the power of cravings, I think, is to just divert it into eating something else - not eat some of what you crave, even if it is induction-friendly.

That being said - what if you saved a splenda serving for when you have that sweet tooth (drink some hot tea sweetened with splenda, for example)?
