  • Bad time to start?

I didn't want to wait until after Thanksgiving or Christmas to start Atkins again, but it is so hard right now with the holidays fast approaching. My thinking is if I wait until after Christmas, I will be that much fatter so I need to start now! But like I said it is really hard for me with all the food, family, teaching school, etc. Sounds like excuses to me now that I have written it down, but it is still hard no matter how you look at it. If anyone out there is starting before Thanksgiving, I would love to hear from you. Michelle

If you are doing Atkins religiously, two things are important to know. If you can avoid the 'just-one-bititus' and are in ketosis during those holiday meals, you can be happy eating turkey, ham, salads, steamed veggies, etc. and sugar won't even sound all that good to you. You can search and find and present a really creative sugar free pumpkin dish and wow everyone, or great green beans or something. But when you are 'deep in' your Atkins, sugar isn't all that tempting.

So the 'two things' are already in that paragraph, one that sugar loses its power when it is cleared from your system, two, there are plenty of great holiday foods that are 'okay' or can be prepared so as to be 'okay.'

But IF you are going to start before Thanksgiving, I suggest you start now, this weekend, so you are well in your groove by then. If you wait until next week, don't bother until afterward, because it is in the first few days that the 'off list' foods have the most temptation power, and likelihood of 'not making it' would be fairly high.

We would be here all the way to help you choose what you can and can't eat, and help you realize that 1) health is more important than treats 2) sugar and excess carbs aren't just not good for you anyway but actively bad for you, any time of the year!

Let us help if we can...best wishes
