Re: Hi everyone.
I am currently 165, but I am would like to weigh 140.
I am not very concerened with the scale number, becasue my weight can be high, but my measurments small.
I tend to tone up and shrink in size, rather than drop numbers on the scale.
For example, I was 140lbs, and I was wearing a size 2-4.
i am 165 and wearing a size 10 ( yes it is snug!!)
Today is my third day on Atkins, and I have dropped 3 pounds on the scale.
I normally eat all the time, crave sweets etc..
I must admit I have only eaten breakfast so far, but I am not hungry.
I will have to force myself to eat lunch now (it is 4pm)
I have been drinking plenty of water.
I recently went to a doctor and she told me no carbs.
Carbs are death for women in their 40s.
I turn 40 in a few months.
I was so happy, to have finally heard a medical doctor promote a low carb diet.
I am currenlty living in Costa Rica, but I am from the USA.
I have been here 2 1/2 years.
I have gained 20 pounds. It is so frustrating because I eat very healthy.
Sample menu:
pineapple, smoothie with banana, soy milk, and flaxseed
rice, black beans, tortillas and chicken
rice black beans/or lentils and fish or chicken.
coffee
As you can see this type of diet is not good for someone who can not eat carbs.
I was having a terrible time with hypoglycemia and gaining weight. I exercise a lot.
When I went back to the States to visit family, they were shocked I had gained weight.
They know I do not eat at fast food restaurants, I do not eat candy, I do not drink soda.
My mom told me "it is the carbs!"
You can not eat the carbs!
I am returning to the States, Decemebr 2oth for the Christmas holidays.
I have been swimming 3 times a week, attending yoga 5 times a week and walking. My measurments have gone done, but not a lot. My weight did not budge.
I am determined to return to the States feeling comfortable in my clothes and my own skin, and fit.
I am frustrated becasue I have wasted so much time eating the wrong way for my body.
After only 3 days, I feel like a new person!
I am committed, and I know I will need to rely on the advice of so many people on this site.
I am unable to get the Atkins book down here, but I will purcahse it ASAP, in December.
In the mean time I am taking the advice from this board and from those who have done so well.
I know so many people can relate the the frustration of trying so hard and never getting results.
I will need their hard earned advice and support.
Happy Thanksgiving, and best of health to all.Fab,Fit and 40!!

Re: Hi everyone.
Thanks Mateluna for posting your story.
You sound really committed which is great, and have gotten off to a very good start. I'm sure you'll go back to the States feeling comfortable in your clothes and with yourself.
Post lots and ask any questions you might have. There are plenty of people around willing to give advice and tips. The sooner you are able to get the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - 2002 edition) the better. Understanding the science behind this way of eating is a huge help.
Kudos to you for drinking your water and exercising....both a huge help.
Happy losing!Before and after:
