  • New and Thanksgiving is on its WAY! HElp!

Hi my name is Chantel. I am new to this board not new to the diet but I don't think I have ever done it seriously enough to really see what it can do for me. I usually do the induction phase for a week and lose interest.
I am 5'5 170 pounds and have been doing the diet for a week today. I have lost 5 lbs...which I am excited about ...but I am worried on how to get through Thanksgiving. Any suggestions??
I want to do this right and healthy. I have spent a lot of useless time and money doing things the wrong and unhealthy way and am really not looking for a fast result but a permanent result...I am a professional makeup artist exposed to every day body image issues that just make me feel well...in someways just plain inadequate.
I know this is not a means to a happy life but it can help me a bit get to where I always want to be physically...anyone who likes to offer support and advice please help me! I would love it.

Are you hosting or are you going somewhere?

My advice will be different depending on which.

Ok, I am too, so here's my plan: eat a lot of turkey and legal stuff. Complicated, ain't it?

I substituted fresh string beans stir fried in butter with slivers of garlic and ginger for corn, and our other veggie sides except for potatoes were already on-plan.

We are making low carb cheesecake for dessert (along with pies and such my mom is bringing).

        The big problem children are:

Gravy (I have not been able to get a low-carb alternative here - don't like xantham gum)
        Stuffing
        Potatoes
        Bread
        Macaroni and Cheese (from scratch)

The mac n'cheese will be made with Dreamfields pasta (lower carb pasta that's the best), but I won't be eating it anyway, because I can't.

We're making the other things the normal way but I won't be eating most of 'em, I'll be too busy stuffing myself with the legal stuff. Instead of gravy I plan to make a butter-turkey juice-garlic sauce to dribble all over my food.

Potatoes and bread I'm skipping - will be hard to skip but I can do it.

        Dressing is the hard part.

We are going to try the day after an Atkins-friendly stuffing to see if we can use that instead of our normal stuff next year (my sister and I do this meal together and we both have to agree on all items - so I won't just change stuff without her trying it first - and she lives far away from me, so we'll have to do it then).

So - I do plan on eating some of the "normal" dressing - so I'm cheating on that one. I just plan to budget my carbs accordingly and track what I'm eating, and if I eat too much and get knocked out of ketosis (unlikely but possible) I'll go back on induction on Saturday for a week to put myself back on track.

We have a snack tray we keep out during cooking to stave off the hungries for everyone - in addition to black and green olives and mandarin oranges, I'm adding cheese and sausage, so by dinner time at 1pm, I won't be STARVING and ruin my carefully laid plans!

There you go, that's my plan. I don't control my menu independently so I must compromise. If you do control your menu - you have two days to try atkins-friendly substitutes and find ones you like!

Y'know - one more thought... my plan is based on several months of practice and learning what my triggers are, and what they are not (I have no sweet tooth - the dressing is dangerous for me, though I've faced worse and got through it ok). For you... you might not want to risk something like a smidge of real dressing, it could be a bad trigger for you.
