    Hi,
Just found this site yesterday and am very glad I did. Have read the books and attempted Atkins with moderate results several times over the years. I was looking for positive support and info and I think I have found the right place for that. I look forward to a positive experience with an ultimate goal of loosing 100 lbs and maintaining that level.

So, I take it from your name you are a fellow drummer?
If you are also a chef, I think we might be identical twin strangers.....

        Re: New guy

        Thanks for the welcome Chef,

'Gooddrums' actually refers to my son. I played when younger but haven’t had a kit in years, although I do beat around on his occasionally.

How about your drumming, hobby or professional?

I would think your being a chef would provide an incredible challenge in trying to maintain a diet program such as Atkins.

I just turned 60 and am suffering for age creep and inactivity. 20 years ago, I weighed about 220 lbs. Being 6'4", that worked OK, but now I'm at 300 lbs. The extra weight is causing a number of physical problems, so I really need immediate and effective results if I am going to maintain an active lifestyle.

Have been one week in induction and lost 8 lbs. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks for your interest,
        Bob

Welcome aboard Bob! Really utilize this site for variety. It has helped me tremendously with my menu. In my opinion the three things that have helped me the most are; seeking support on this site, preparing my meals in advance, and as much exercise as I can! YOu will be surprised how quickly you will get back in shape. Good luck!

                Re: New guy

My drumming is a hobby, but I was a music major my first few years of college, then I switched to education, and got away from drumming.
Been a while since I played now, need to get a new kit!

Being a chef is the reason I have gained so much. It's tough to be a chef and eat this way. I guess it's lucky that my company lost the contract at the location where I was working and I have been home for 4 months!

                  Re: New guy

I fully understand about being around food all day yet trying to follow a strict food plan. I have slowly gained weight over the years, but packed on about 40 lbs. in 6 months after I retired. My adjustment to retirement has not been easy, mentally or physically.

As another member told me, one of the main keys to success is getting as much activity as you can. That has been my main failing in the past, but recently started following a regular exercise program. Seems to be helping and I feel better.
