  • Epic Intro...

    Hello All!

I'm a 26 y/o female and have just jumped on the Atkins bandwagon.

Am beginning induction today: Dec 1, 2008.
    Aiming for 14 days clean.

    My Journey:
I've always been of a "sturdy" build, and tend to build muscle quickly. My weight has fluctuated over the years, but I tend to be on the "solid" side.

A friend of mine lost a significant amount of weight over the summer of 2000 and when I asked her how she did it, she briefly outlined the Atkins philosophy. I tried it on my own and found that after a few days, I just wasn't hungry anymore. Am aiming for a clean induction and then to continue in this way of eating for the indefinite future...

I've struggled with binge eating and other unhealthy food behaviors before and my goal is to learn to relate to food as fuel and nothing else.

    Why Atkins?
I feel like this WoE works best for me because it requires the least amount of thought. I go crazy when I try to count calories and feel hungry when I eat low-fat. I feel stronger, more focused, and calmer when I'm eating high protein/low carb.

    My Goals:
~I want my food thoughts to decrease.
~I want to learn to make healthy, sane, rational food choices out of habit and get to the point where the carb-y/starch-y foods don't even appeal to me anymore.
~I'd like to lose some weight (at an average rate of 2 lbs a week...) and my goal is around 123/125-ish, although I feel like the weight loss is just an added bonus and not really the main reason I'm doing this.

Have worked an OA program and find that the principles apply to this WoE. I am definitely carb/sugar sensitive and find that it really is like an addiction. I can not have "just one bite" of something sweet.

Am so thankful for this site and you all. Looking forward to the journey!

    Hi, Focused

    Welcome to ADBB!

You sound like you have some great goals. Try not to get too hung up on the number of pounds a week that you lose. It would be fantastic if the weight came off in a linear fashion, but it doesn't. I averaged a loss of between 1 and 2 pounds a week... that means that on some weeks I lost 2 pounds, some weeks I lost 1 pound, and some weeks I lost 0 pounds. Just keep the faith, have patience, and believe.

Make sure to read the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. That is the book that this board is based upon, and reading the book definitely does help. Until you can get to the book, make sure to check out this link if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html

    Best wishes to you!
