  • Newbie here...

Hi my name is Trey. I am a Paramedic in SE Oklahoma. I had tried the Atkins diet before, a few years ago, lost about 20 lbs and quit. Fianlly, in August of this year, I was weighing 360+ (scales are sketchy, and no other scales went that high). I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and made a commitment. It does help that I love eggs meat butter and cheese! Anyhow, I still have not even read the Atkins book. I plan to purchase it very soon. As for exercise, I have worked myself up to walking 3 miles a day, about 4 or 5 times a week. I am now mulling over making my walks 3 in the morning, 3 in the evening. I also purchased Barry's Bootcamp, and have progressed for 3 months in that program. I have much more endurance, and I find myself having more daytime energy as well. This is important, as we work 24 hrs on, 48 hrs off. Weight has always been a struggle for me, but I am committed to do it this time. I can rememeber when I was on active duty in the Marines and weighed 180 lbs and could run all day. Personally, I enjoy going to church, praying and being outdoors. In my job I get to do all 3. God has richly blessed me and continues everyday. I am not married, (nor do I wish to be) and I have as my roommate my best friend in the whole world, Jolene. She is my prayer partner, my pew partner, my shopping partner, etc. We are like sister and brother, only the blood we share is not from our parents, it is from our Heavenly Father! Coincidentally, she is also the main spur in my success so far. She lost a significant amount of weight in the past on Atkins. She has since attempted it again, but with no success ( maybe as time pregresses someone on here can help us here?). Anyhow, that is me. Oh, and my current weight is 298, so I have lost 60+ so far. I would like to be about 190 or 200 when I am done.

    Re: Newbie here...

I also started around 360 (363 to be exact) so I know what you have gone thru!!
This is my third time here, so I can also relate on that!

If you haven't read the book, then you may be having some issues that you don't know about. The diet isn't just meat, eggs, bacon, and butter. There is much more to it and to do it right, you need to understand the science (or the main ideas of the science) as well as the food. Too many people just eat bacon for weeks and wonder why they don't lose weight.

Anyhoo, great jod with the weight loss so far, drink your water, keep praying (that helps more than anyone knows), and keep exercising!! I have my exercise in for the day, most of my water, I need to do some studying and some Bible time and my day is complete!!!

I see you seem to be the same way, so best wishes to you and I will put you on my prayer list.

BTW, I am not known for being this nice and never mentioned the prayer thing before on here, so don't ruin my reputation for being a grumpy, mean-spirited chef....
